I'm would not be suprised if people here noticed this already, and maybe even brought it up, but the Wikipedia has a link to HLP.
I was looking up what exactly a Myrmidon was, because most of the Terran fighters in FS2 have names of mythological greek figures, but I could not determine if Myrmidon fits this trend. (However, a Wikipedia search revealed that it was indeed a figure from Greek mythology). One of the more interesting things in the article, though, was down at the bottom:
Myrmidones in popular culture
The Myrmidon is a Terran space fighter craft in the space simulation Freespace by Volition.
(there was more, obviously, but this was the only one relevant to here).
And there was also a ink to an article on Freespace. I hopped over there, and found a rather concise history of the development of the freespace games, and one additional paragraph.
Still, the FreeSpace saga lives on in the work of amateur mission designers. New, user-made campaigns sport custom ships, detailed storylines, and plenty of missions. Another project, FreeSpace Open, was started after Volition released the FreeSpace 2 source code. An active developer community gathered at Hard Light Productions Forums (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/).
HLP is famous now. :)

Ahem. Don't get too happy.

I do remember writing an entry on FS once, and I think I did something like a link from the Hades page, but I didn't do any HLP links, IIRC.

Amateur!?!?!?!
I hope after 5 bloody years we're passed the Amatuer stage :p
Anyway, isn't that spelt wrong? ;)

Well, someone log in and 'correct' it. ;)

Done. ;)
[q]Still, the FreeSpace saga lives on in the work of mission designers and "modders", some of whom have become veritable experts and are training younger members of the community. New, user-made campaigns sport custom ships and weapons, detailed storylines and decision-based mission branching. Another project, FreeSpace Open, was started after Volition released the FreeSpace 2 source code, which has elevated the features of the game far past its original capabilities.
