Not wanting to bump a thread that's been dead since xmas, I present the latest version of the Iron Duke class destroyer.

Not huge changes, but it's now significantly longer (proportions are better now), has recogniseable engines, and has had a whole load of geometry errors fixed - there were about 100 tiny little polys where vertices hadn't welded or had got split somehow...
Critiques, ideas, flames? Stick 'em here :)
EDIT: The model is in two halves atm, in case you were wondering why there's a big gap down the middle. I didn't want to spend ages matching up vertices just for a few screenies.

Looks Wingcommander.:)
Overall quite good, though that fin in the middle seems to serve no visible purpose, maybe make it broader and part of the superstructure.
I'm looking forward on the textured version.
-
I thought you had textured it by now...
-
Heh, I don't even know how to texture yet. ;) No, I'm still adding details, and I'm still not 100% happy with the rear hull, so it might change a bit more yet. And I have to make turrets as well... :shaking:
-
hmm...fins on sides could be bigger:nod:
-
Something about the main body...the curve is so smooth compared to the rest of the ship.
-
 What d'you mean Lib? The only real curve on the model is on the bows. The main hull (the long middle bit) is like a box with the top edges bevelled. There are also the two big trenches cut out underneath. It's not really curvy at all...
c914: Aye, I was thinking about that. Do you think bigger all round, or just extend them in one direction (I was thinking further back)?
-
hmmm looks like a Imperial battlecruiser from Battlefleet Gothic, which is a VERY good thing( well i like the design) me want Hehehehe......
-
pyro-manic: not soo big round just add to them one more brake-down in to main hull direction.
BTW would be nicie if bottom fin had same as side one inner cuts:nod:

Don't get me wrong, I like it. It may just have been the perspective of the shots(i apologize for copying you're images):

In this shot it has a nice smooth curve on the "main" hull. While on it's own it's not bad, the detail on the forward and aft of that section makes it incongruous enough to throw the eye off:

It's just too smooth a curve, other than that, it's perfect.

's alright. :) And I see what you mean. I'm actually trying to redo that bit of the back - it looks awful IMO, and it's a horrendous mess in terms of polys and vertices. I'm trying to figure out what to do to it without destroying the top superstructure. I'm gonna have a play with it this evening, so I'll post more pics in a few hours...
EDIT: better make that tomorrow. I just found I've got lots of work to do.... :doubt:
-
Well, I've messed about with this for long enough I think. I'm now calling this stage of the model "finished". I've spent weeks messing with this mesh, and I could spend weeks more, but I want to actually finish the thing, so I'm declaring the hull finished. Pics below....

Now I have to add some assymetrical details (antennae, some small towers etc), make some turrets for this beast and decide on a colour scheme for the textures. As always, ideas and comments are welcome. :)
EDIT: Pics fixed...

Ha, I know the feeling. :p
