Title: fred2 viewport is black
Post by: Dark RevenantX on February 05, 2005, 09:50:06 pm
I am pissed at FRED2 Open!  Every freakin' time I run FRED2 Open (3.6.5), it shows a black main area.  I can do anything I want with the other aspects of FRED2, and technically, I can create a mission.  It is, however, a huge pain in the posterior not to be able to see my mission in FRED.

I have tried all the builds.  Any help would be nice!

Also, OpenGL is not working anymore, and with that, the shinemaps cease to function.  Help with this, too!

Edit: Well, now it seems to not be able to load at all.  Something about Terran Huge Turret (old).  My god, will the bad news end?  *in background, the news says that bush is going to be in office for another 10 years*  Apparently not.

FRED2_OPEN is seriously broken.  A serious fix is in progress. ;)

I suspect your black viewport and OpenGL problems are connected. Did you change your graphics card drivers recently or something?

FRED may be seriously broken but it isn't THAT broken :)

It went black when I switched to FRED2_Open_r, but it doesnt even load with the newer version.

I recently switched to the OMEGA Radeon Catalyst 4.4 driver, which disabled opengl to a certain extent, and added spec mapping to d3d.

Oddly enough, when I put the scp files onto my desktop for something, and an hour later, put them all back, spec mapping suddenly stopped working.

While environment mapping is more realalistic, spec mapping looks better.  This is mainly why I hate to see specular mapping to die.  For some reason, I got problems in OpenGL when it did work, which outweighs the looks of specular mapping.

My question is: why the hell would the editor run on opengl when it can just use what is set in the launcher?

There should be an operator for the X. Y, or Z of a ship or subsystem of a ship.

There is a very odd fix for this bug.  Look at one of the newest mantis bugs and read it for the fix.  Username is my forum name.
