Is it possible, to implement something so that when the hull integrity of a ship falls to a certain level a certain section of it falls off e.g. a Hercules falls to 25% and a chunk out of the hull comes off.
And would it be possible to do the same with subsystems, when a subsystem is destroyed a chunk gets blasted off.
-
Any reasonable way of making this happen in FS2 any time soon would require all the damage effects to be modelled into all the ships in the game. At the very least, someone would need to define the parts that would fall off. I don't think it's too likely.
-
To an extent this IS ALREADY POSSIBLE.
Bobbau implemented non-targetable subsystems.
-
Trouble is, nobody wants to go and set this up for all the ship models in the game.
I don't blame them either...

here's an idea:
how bout we use geomod to simulate holes in the hull when a beam or other huge weapon hits it. That way, it doesnt look like a beam is a linear fire maker.

If I see another post about Geomod, I swear to god...

Because FS was built without geomod in mind...
-
...the data structure for storing model geometry isn't amenable for editing that geometry dynamically, for one thing (IIRC).
-
And possibly because Geomod has been beaten to death SO many times, its not even funny.
Of interesting information, Bob was the first person (read: at HLP) to mention Geomodding, 4 years ago to the month.

The damage modelling feature is already used by a couple of models.
Bobb used it on his Deimos, while Grimloq on his Hecate...those are the ones that come to my mind.
