Oh man that's cool. Can you imagine the quality and detail of content stored on that?
-
Awesome. But it'll be quite a few years until these hit the general market.
-
Quite interesting, looking forward to getting one of those :D

My first thought is: too big. A CD is right on the border of being almost too big, and this is a bit bigger, so.....
What happened to all those mini discs that we were promised in the sci-fi movies?
-
So with that I could watch LOTRs 1, 2, and 3 with out stopping? :D

Looks exactly the same size...

Anyone who thinks a CD is almost too big needs a reality check. :doubt:
And while this new disc is bigger, it only differs by maybe a few frigging millimeters. Seriously, a disc is going to contain 200 times more data then a DVD and you are actually complaining about a few millimeters increase in size!?

Do any of you remember Laser discs?

CDs won't fit in my pocket. Thus, they are too big.
The iPod is our Lord and Savior. Blessed be its divine maginifence. Amen.

Your trousers are crap then :p I can easily get cds into my pockets.
Good stuff. Though we still haven't fully utilised DVDs as of yet. Most are still only single- or double-layered, and IIRC they can have 4 or 5. And what about Blue-Ray discs? They're supposed to be the "next big thing"....
-
Hush you-obviously-mosher-person-with-trousers-that-big.
Solid state is the way to go for portability, but there's no reason why optical storage can't be used for things like movies, data backup, corporate storage (i.e. a TV station).

HDV is going fail i think because it's comes in really bad time next format war is already going Hd-dvd vs Blue-ray
so i think they need wait while before lauching yet another format which is supposed to be expensive

Personally I think ipods are too big for pockets. If you can't fit your mp3 player in your mouth, its too big (very scientific test).
I read about these disks a few years ago (in T3 i think). This technology could be used for hard-disk drives. Thats where it will be important.

id like to se the end of the 5-1/2" bays. then we can get our cases smaller. :D
give me a half a terabyte and make the drive smaller
-
I want a cupholder!
*presses eject*
Ahh, there it is!
-
Hey, I could fit my 54GB of photos on there, and with room to spare. :)
-
But, could I burn e'm on a DVD recorder? Probley not, and then you would have to wait 4 years or pay $600 bucks for a recorder. Now if they could get 20 gbs on there and be able to record of a DVD recorder, I instantly interested.:D
-
We won't see this within the next 10 to 20 years or so.
The multinational corporations that make tons of money off DVD's and CD's still won't allow us to get that yet.
-
I don't want tiny minidiscs, I'll lose them. :D
