Halo2 CE (http://www.halo2ce.epgservers.com/mod/)
Not the original but something to keep interest nonetheless...

Heh. it doesn't look nearly as good. :p
-
Not really... Because they can't make a new game engine can they?
-
Those buildings, mountains and anything besides the player models and vehicles look like utter crap. Sorry, but Halo is simply a piece of gravely overhyped crap. Halo 2 is just the same. Sure, it's a fun game. But it barely passes as mediocre.
And I'm even a console gamer (just as much as I am a PC gamer).
Halo could've been so[/b] much more impressive graphic- AND gameplay-wise. While the X-Box is more powerfull then the PS2, I have yet to see any X-Box game come even close to games with graphic quality like FFX and FFX-2.
The Halo world (mission levels) isn't even nearly as grand and extensive as in FFX. Hell, it isn't even in the same league and yet they manage to produce a FAR more impressive game on an inferior console (spec-wise).
In short; Unless they begin showing FFX or better quality games (including halo 2) on the X-Box, Halo will remain nothing more then an overhyped myth.
Sorry, about the pessimism, but i hate it when stuff is so overhyped that it isn't even funny anymore. :ick:

Played Ninja Gaiden?

Ninja Garden?

Edit: Bah no hotlinking from sheezy...

I've been playing CE for months now... Hard to find a good server though, since most standalones rotate through maps, and you won't have one or two...

Have you seen Ninja Gaiden.?:p that is most impressive in xbox and hardest too

*Feels the need to post this here* don't ask me why, though (http://ctrlaltdel-online.com/?t=archives&date=2005-02-05)

Yeah, but he loves fangirls :D

Halo 2 graphics aren't all that bad:

Yeah, I'd say the red X is the best looking graphics any game could wish for.

So yeah, I would say those graphics are not that bad.
-
Still, Doom 3 tops.
-
I prefer (playing) Half Life 2 to (screenshots of) Doom 3.... I know the latter is suppossed to be more technically acomplished, but HL2 has a real-world feel that has more of (IMO) an emotional impact.
-
Does Doom 3 use the same physics engine as both H2 and HL2?
-
Oh yeah... Halo CE.

Doesn't matter. It doesn't have the grav gun. :p

No... :wtf:
-
Doom3's physics engine is in house, HL2 uses Havok 2.0, Halo2 also uses a version of the havok physics engine, so does Max Payne 2, i might add.

Halo 2 CE has a grav gun. Used for jumping really high or knocking things around.
-
How the hell did that happen?
-
D3's unrealistic look is due to the actual textures and weirdness with all the overdone bumpmapping and things, not the engine. A friend of mine got HL2 textures and stuff and made a map in D3 with them, and it looked almost identical to HL2 except with dynamic shadows.
Also, the D3 expansion has a gravity gun in. Looks like HL2's gimmick has become an epidemic.
-
HERE IS A SCREENSHOT OF DOOM3:
lol dark
-
*sigh*
The darkness of Doom 3 is there because it's kinda a horror game. It's supposed to be dark. Anyone who's actually tried to make a map for it would know there's an ambient light you can make which does not cast shadows. Make a big one and you don't have any hard black shadows anymore.

dude, the beginning of the game, is dark, it's not very well lit at all.
that said, the specular mapping makes some parts of the game look...plastic.

I'm aware of that. I'm pointing out that that's simply the fault of the map designers - the engine's perfectly capable of brightly lit environments, but being a horror game there was no call for them. And yeah, the textures look plasticky, but again, that's a problem with the textures themselves, and nothing at all to do with the engine.
-
We evaluate games based on the game itself, not the potential of the technology behind it.
-
Well yeah. Doom 3 sucks. I'm just pointing out that its engine is just as capable of realistic stuff as Source.
-
actually, doom3 's spec maps need work.. badly.. i know that d3 is capable of well lit enviroments.. but source's scalbility, and ability to run well on pratically any PC hardware config, makes it a winner

well, i said the engine holds great promise, not the mental giant who thought up steam. :p
-
When you put it that way, yeah, the engine in awesome. Steam is why I won't ever play HL2, I'm not even going to DL the demo.
