Title: It's Deep Fried, Refried, Movie Time! (New Movies of 2005-2006)
Post by: Corhellion on February 08, 2005, 05:34:43 pm
Anyone noticed this? Go on the web, search for new upcoming movies...What do you see?

Remake after Remake after Remake after Remake!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
War of the Worlds
AmityVille Horror (pic of the house btw...scary...http://p214.ezboard.com/fthetruthabouttheamityvillehorrorfrm9.showMessage?topicID=52.topic)
Batman

And a few others which I forget atm...

It seems that oldschool is newschool again...

What are your thoughts on Hollywoods "remade films" idea?

Yay! Nay! Meh!

Firstly, the new Batman movie isn't a remake. Second, neither is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Third, there's nothing wrong with remakes. There are plenty of remakes that are better than the originals.

Actually I think a more interesting sign that creativity is waning comes straight out of Disney, with the current trend of sequels for existing storys (Lion King 3, Mulaan 2 etc.).

For a company that can literally do anything it wants with its cartoon style, you'd think they would actually come out with something new if they could.

Second, neither is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

 :wtf:

...How is it not a remake...Explain it to me...please...cause I'm obviously missing something...

But I'm sort of interested in Hollywoods...interest in "Game movies" First Person/3rd person shooters seem to be what the Hollywood System is on...Might we see a Shocking movie sometime in the future...that's faithful to the game (for once...)

I'm still waiting for them to remake Casablanca. That's when you know they've finally run out of ideas.

omfg...Do not argue. IT'S A REMAKE!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367594/board/nest/15549574

Read that...if you people still have the same opinion...you're messed in the head...Nuff said...

Remake=If there was an older movie with the same plot made anew...it gets classified as a REMAKE in my books...nothing wrong with remakes...they're sometimes better than the original in most cases...

Agreed, Batman isn't a remake.

Disagreed with neo and Ford: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a remake. Johnny Depp as Wonka, Charlie played by some kid (don't care for the name; probably won't see it), Grandpa, fat girl, etc.

Agreed: Hollywood needs fresh ideas. I'm honestly sick of remakes and "reimaginations" of old movies. Usually remakes end up not being as good as the original (read: Planet of the Apes, 12 Angry Men, Godzilla 2000, etc.).

I rather enjoyed movies like The Aviator and Sideways, though.

Apparently it's based on the book and not the previous movie. In that respect it's not remaking it, more... making it... again...

Exactly. It is a completely new interpretation of the book. "Remake" implies that it draws its influence from the original movie, which it does not.

It's not a remake of the movie, it's another film adaption of the book. So in a way, yes, but remake generally implies that's it's a modern version of an old film, which it isn't.

Very subtle. ;) Pity I can't handle scary movies, or I'd jump right behind it too...

Why don't they just make remakes of bad movies. Then at least they can try and re sell a property than give something again that we all love. Why not remake Surf Nazis must die! Or Dreamscape?

i finally got around to seeing the aviator, best movie ive seen sence the chronicles of riddick. still im not impressed, i havent seen a movie id consider a four star in a long time. this new movie about the crusades, i forget what it was called, looks like it may be good. none the less the modern movie industry needs to pull its head out of its ass.

Bah!  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would definately not be a re-make.  I am willing to bet that it and Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory will be entirely different.  Hell, if you want to call that a re-make, you may as well call the current LOTR trilogy a re-make as well, because since there was already an animated LOTR trilogy in the mid-80s.  It's safe to say remake, right?

I think I'm the only person in the world who actually owns (and likes) Ralph Bashki's Lord of the Rings. Its kind of half animated half real life. And sadly, there was no trilogy. There was supposed to be two movies, so each movie is esentially a book and a half, but only the first one got made.
