Name says it all, I got bored and here's 20 minutes worth of work.
I used this shot from the Aliens movie
(http://www.cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/sulaco.jpg)
and came up with this!
Credits:
Sulaco: Derrin Proctor (Awesomely wicked stuff there!) http://members.ozemail.com.au/~dproc/
I'm going to be fixing up a few things (nebula needs to be different, and the hull needs some shine to it...)
Comments? Questions? Critisisms?
-
Awesome. I would even say yours looks better, its darker and more moody. If you were going for a close resembelance, you definitely got it.
Great work.
-
Nice...
...now let's see it in fs2_open. :nervous:
-
Cool...
-
neat dude.
-
Actually...WMCoolmon...it's got less polies than the BSG...so....it can be...:-D
...and I'd look alot better with shine maps and better nebulas...

Then what are you waiting for?
Sulaco looks great, just add some shine and maybe a better starfield.
-
Great translation from the reference pic. :) What it's missing is specular. Get some shininess on there.
-
remove some of the tiny details and convert it to POF.
-
sweet! give it some subtle spec. highlights and it would be awesome.
-
I've got that Sulaco, it's a pretty cool model.
-
Two updates for ya (next post though)
I added specular to the model as well as tweak a few things. This is the results
(http://www.cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/Sulaco_aliens3.jpg)
Good things: Specular! It's Shiny! It looks a bit closer to the pic!
Bad things: Moodiness of the first pic is lost. Too "Blue" in the lighting. TOO MUCH Shininess. Sun is too big. Shadows are too hard.
All of these are fixed and improved in the last pic (hopefully *crosses fingers*)
-
*Cues drums*
It's done...hopefully...

Questions? Comments? Critisism? Praise?
It's done...now....off to do me a little movie with this scene ;7
-
It's so much better than the movie shot it's ridiculous.
-
Very cool...could you do a render in1280x1024 ....pwuddy pwease ?
-
For a desktop?
hmmm...it might be a bit tricky...but...sure!
I'll make a 800x600 one too
I'll upload them in a bit.
-
Can I have a 1600x1200? :D
-
Why not!
Wall papers all around!
800x600: Clink me! (http://www.cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/Desktop%20Images/Sulaco_aliens_smallDT0000.jpg)
1024x768: Click me! (http://www.cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/Desktop%20Images/Sulaco_aliens_mediumDT0000.jpg)
1280x1024: Click me! (http://www.cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/Desktop%20Images/Sulaco_aliens_bigDT0000.jpg)
And for Falcon...
1600x1200: Click me! (http://www.cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/Desktop%20Images/Sulaco_aliens_hugeDT0000.jpg)
Enjoy!
And if anyone has any ideas about how it can be tweaked/improved, please pass them along!
-
Can I suggest brighter stars?
-
Wow, thats really cool.
*changes background*
And what he (^^) said.
-
*shrugs*
With the effects I've got...that's as bright as the stars are gonna get...I can get them a fraction of a percentage brighter...but it looks the same...
(Edit...didn't see turnskys reply...and he's right...it's supposed to be a moddy/'dark' render...)
-
any brighter would ruin the mood.
-
.......and I like it :D
Thanks Corhellion
-
no prob :)
-
not spam...
-
over exposure...never thought of that...maybe C4D has it...
...But that Render has too much specular...and it defeats the mood I was aiming for.
Nice edit btw!
-
Yeah, I didn't realize I picked the wrong image. :nervous:
-
This one's better...
-
*shrugs*
Makes that one look a bit better though...
So...I take it you're going to give the final render the same treatment?
(Edit: I thought right! That looks great!)
-
:nervous:
-
lemme guess, photoshop, dup layer, gauss blur top layer a tad, set to screen/linear dodge, and set opacity/fill to your taste?
