ya know, i been thinking, seeing that inferno has such HUGE ships, and battlefields are therefore VEY LARGE, shouldn't the fighters be able to get around it a bit quicker than they actually do?
I mean, an afterburner should propel a fighter at 3 times (or more) its base max speed. Right? I say this because some ships(especially bombers-i know theyre big and heavily armored, but they SHOULD be able to pace heavy assault fighters) have a max MAX speed of barely 50% higher than their base max velocity.
Does this make any sense?
-
The AI can't handle high speeds very well, and if your ship is too fast you overshoot the warp effect when you try to jump.
-
really?
It worked fine for me when i modded the aries class from the original FS2.
Why wouldnt it work anywhere else? Im not talking a max afterburner velocity of, like, 1000, but something between 200 and 300.
Roughly.
-
The AI will start colliding more with faster speeds, and so it looks foolish, also they have trouble getting aspect lock at those speeds as they jump past their target before they do.
-
What will your next poost be Stadust?
Weapons!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111oneoneoneeleven
Seriously, don't put millions of Exclamation marks or you will be very quickly marked as a n00b

yeah, sorry bout that. guess i got a bit worked up over that.
As for being a noob, im still prety new with the whole forum scene. i used to have a girlfriend who spent damn near every waking hour at a computer, submitting posts and reading stuff. So im still a bit leery, as i dont want to get addicted to this sort of thing. Not that its not fun, mind you... but she took it waaay over the top, ya know?
Anyways, ill know for next time:drevil:
-
Nah the Harpy is usually fine, the Succubus has to use heat seekers though. It rarely can get aspect lock :D
-
The Succubus can't really get aspect lock, and getting aspect lock on the succubus is very hard too.
-
The.....succumbus...? The Harpy...?
I dunno what u guys are talkin bout there, but what i was getting at is most heavy bombers have a max velocity of something like 100, if that. I can't remember exactly, havent had much chance to play around lately, between this damn cold and college assignments, but its something like that.
-
Yeah most heavy bombers are slow, except for Shivan and Ancient ones.
-
With the right guns, the Ancients die quite quickly. Though they seem to be tougher, they wouldn't of been when you get the right equipment.
-
Did you really trash the Ancients?
-
Plus the Ancients don't have shields
-
Look! I'm a n00b!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111oneoneone
And, the Ancients are dead. Again. Woomeister killed them. That evil Woomeister. Who does he think he is? The Shivans?

No, he just used cheats and a Keres with all primaries turned to USilv.
-
Funnily enough I never used cheats in FS2 retail, and I only use them now for debugging purposes.

Just think, Woomeister killed two species: the Ancients and the ***********************s. He dropped them both in the virtual recycle bin on his computer. ARE THE VASUDANS NEXT? Find out in Inferno: R2!
-
Actually I only killed 1 of them, some of the Ancient stuff still is in there, you just need ships and weapons to enable them. Ancient species support is still in there, though it needs to be tidied up a bit.
I also still have the R1.5 Ancient fleet. ;7
-
Hey, does it mean that ancients ships will be in R2 but not in campaign?? It would be wonderful.

What did you kill? The scavengers want carrion.

No like I said the species support is there, but the ships are not. I have other plans for the remaining Ancient ships...
-
I use them for purposes like making sure things that should be invulnerable (background scenery, TBP jumpgates, etc.) are invulnerable, testing and balancing weapons, etc.

I never used cheats period. Besides, it might be hard to enable them and I like a game with some challenge.
I use the cheats to check for bugs in the weapons, I found a very critical bug using them that I couldn't figure out.
I don't use cheats for cheating purposes.

I don't understand
species support (not)= species ships ??
Can you say something about "the other plans" ??
-
Species support means their sounds, icons and species defs entries are still in there, but no weapons or ships are included.
As for the other plans, maybe soon I'll say something. I'm working on it right now actually :)

If u do include the ancients, you should put them in the tech database the same way that the terrans, Vasudans, and Shivans are (so we can see what the Ancients look like). I wonder, what do they look like?
Also, if you are working on other stuff, that might make it take a lot longer to release R2.
Then we would have to make a model of one.
We're waiting on a completed mission doc from Sadistic Sid, plus my main duties now are overseeing the mods and making the new cbanis and stuff. So I have time to sidetrack and do other stuff untill there's something else to do.

You could just draw one if you're good at that kind of thing. I always imagined them as being sort of like teal-colored Vasudan-like creatures with tentacles.

Now why on earth would the ancients have tentacles? I always pictured them as the Greys, actually.
-
Yeah the Aquatic theory I heard about 3-4 years ago. Can't remember were though.
-
The maps on the Knossos, IIRC, have a sort of aquatic look, or at least an aquatic colouring. I guess from that you get sea->squid->tentacles.

Ancient heavy bombers are faster than Shivan ones? That just isn't right. The Shivans are much older than the Ancients so the Shivans should not have only faster ships than the Ancients but they should have heavier hulls as well. Funny thing is that Ancients seem superior to Shivans because they are faster and heavier than Shivans ships. The Shivans are so old that they should be faster and heavier than Ancients and on top of that, they should also keep the shields while having all the speed and heavy armor plating.
Yeah, right. But it'd be REALLY hard to make sense out of it; you see: the Shivans had spaceships, shields and even planetkillers - 8000 years ago ! So what are they supposed to have now???
And as they're a collective, it's no option to say they've been thrown back by a civil war or the like.
[and I hope I didn't bump another old thread...]
-
The Ancients are faster and hard for GTVA fighters to take down unless they use weapons like the Hastor or Aquinas. The old Subach or Prometheus just won't cut it against them.
Ancient capships are on average stronger than their Shivan counterpart, but have poorer defenses. But reasonable offense.
Shivan craft will usually win a battle with an Ancient one. Unless it has a disadvantage for some reason.
The Shivans do have far superior ships and weapons, they just seem to hold back on their use.
