The original Japanese version or the cheesy Western version? :p
I found the original scarier. The 'remake' was just too much of "Don't go in the attic!" scare tactics.
I will admit:
Spoiler:
That part with the dead chick's body at the end gave me chills. So did that noise they both made when they opened their mouths.

You know. My friends over hyped this film to me way too much. I've seen a ****load of scary films, so nowadays it takes alot to scare me. So when I watched it, I was constantly searching for the big "holy ****" scare and over looked the scary bits. So I admit it has its scary moments, especially the bus scene and stairwell scene. Good stuff. But unfortunately it seemed to me a bit too much like a loose string of scary moments that have no relation to each other. Like a Haunted House ride.
I'll give the R-Rated version a go when I get the chance.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm tired of horror movies using suspense as a cheap substitute for real horror. I don't go to a horror movie to be startled-- I go to be sickened, disturbed, and just see a lot of blasphemous things that no person should ever see. Cabin Fever, now that was horror.
Oh, and boobies should be included, too.

Yeah, they released the original R-rated version in Japan, but toned it down for western culture because it was too disturbing.
So Sam Raimi said that at some point he'll release the R-rated version on DVD. It'll prolly come out in Japan first at some point and you can get it as an import.
