Right. I _need_ that to live.

Can anyone of you people with skills tell me if that's viable?

This would be one of the two ultimate add-ons for the multiplayer side of FreeSpace.

Please? Any word?

Aye, it's most certainly possible.  And it's on our high-priority list too.

Yell at Kazan; he's the one responsible for all the multiplayer stuff. :p

I was playing around with that awhile back...I don't think it ever got implemented, though, it needed extra art to be properly implemented in the 'create server' screen.

It was pretty unreliable, and didn't seem to work at all for co-op (IIRC).

It worked pretty nicely in FS1.

Maybe you can "borrow" the artwork from there? It'll be out of place, but it'll work.

Meh, this'd be cool to have with FS2. We've been missing it very much, especially now with as little games as there are.

It'd be good that there is no waiting time for people that want to play immediatly.

Meh, I hope this is do-able for you guys.

If it's high on your priority list

V turned it off for a reason, FS1 in game join was REALLY unstable. V made a design decision to just take it out. We all raised a stink at release, but in the end, it improved the stability of the game, so I understand why it got disabled.

I expect it will take some serious voodoo to get it working without crashing, and we creat enough crashes of our own ;)

Yeah, probably true. I had some guy trying to join today - threw a perfectly good connection out of whack for everyone, even when he stopped trying.

Urm.

Hope this can be fixed.

It'd be reeeeeeealy, reeeeeeeeally, awesome if people could join mid-game nicely.

I think the "option" to in-game join is in CVS, but the implementation isn't.  Or if it is, it's only half-supported.  Basically anyone who in-game joins causes the game to run off a cliff.

Any chance you can fix that in one way or the other?

I'd like it to work, but if I'm going to have people trying to join and killing my game, I'd rather they get rejected from the get go.

Yeah, it was due to a very confusing logic test. :p

"-ingame" toggles it now.

I hadn't downloaded the weapons table!  I didn't know you had to, I had no weapons!   Would you have preferred it if I'd just stayed in the briefing forever?

I would have prefered if you didn't try to join the game while it was going on.

"-ingame" will toggle the option off and let me live in peace once I've launched?

It's off by default, ingame will toggle it on, so yes.

Originally it was supposed to be toggled on and off with -rt, but I didn't have the if() set up properly for that. I made it less confusing and added the -ingame option, then uploaded it to CVS. I haven't tested it, but the change was pretty simple. :)

Launcher is telling me that an "-ingame" command does not exist.

Try this build (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,30702.0.html)

It's in CVS, but I don't know if any of the recently-released builds have been synced. It should definitely be in that one though.
