I just bought a re-released version of Freespace 2 from England. The weapons aren't loading causing the whole mission process to stop. Are there any patches I can download to fix this problem? I have the 1.2 patch installed but still no luck.

What exactly have you got installed?
FS2 Only?
FS2 + FS2_Open?
Do you have mv_aseffects.vp installed? I've heard of that causing problems.
-
Hi:
It's a bare bones original copy of FS2 from England. Nothing added at all. Just the 1.2 upgrade patch so far and Babylon 5 missions.
-
Which B5 missions? R3? They definately won't work on retail.
Which mission are you loading?
Shows how much attention I pay to post counts that I only realise I hit 11000 over 100 posts later :D
-
You need the Babylon 5 mod to play the Babylon 5 missions.
-
The training missions load but, after that none of the weapons load in Freespace 2 commercial version no B-5 add on. The weapons dir is empty. I think the original install is at fault. It left out critical info in the mission dir I think. I was going to upload the notepad file but I don't see the option here. Is that normal??
-
You're really starting to lose me now Mooseman. There's no weapons folder in FS2.
As far as I can make out you're trying to play TBP missions on Freespace2 retail without actually downloading TBP itself. :wtf:
Unless you can make it a hell of a lot clearer than this what you're doing I think the only advice I can give you is to uninstall FS2 (and any TBP stuff you have), delete the Freespace 2 folder and start again with a fresh install of FS2.
-
Or he could just be using a bad pilot file. Try making a new pilot before you do anything else within retail; since Taylor fixed pilots for FSO we tend to forget the bugs that crop up with the old code.

Sorry. I don't mean to be so vague. I'll try again:
I have a commercial (bought) version of FS2. I just acquired it from England over E-Bay. With it came a seperate disk labelled Babylon 5 and and the FS2 1.2 patch. I installed FS2 and then the B-5 missions add on. Then as soon as I start the game, it gives me a Debug error that say it can't locate the weapons files, and mission briefing files. The game still goes on though. But after the training sessions, I have absolutely no weapons at all and the mission console has nothing in it. Just the type set.
I'm not running it with FS-2 SCP and have it in a completely seperate directory/folder for example SCP is in C:\games\FS2\ and the other is in C:\games\Freespace2\. So there is no sharing of files between FS-2 SCP and the new FS-2. It will even look on the internet, after stopping, and has checked for the latest update, and says it is up-to-date.
Again I'm sorry about the misinformation but I really don't know this program that well.
Again I thank you for your help with this.

Hmm. Can you link us to the ebay page? If you purchased it fewer than 30 days ago the page should still be active.

No problems, Mooseman. Sorry, can you describe that additional Babylon 5 CD a little more? Sounds like those mods are causing your retail installation some trouble.
-
Here is the link,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8163143033
The mods aren't even in the same folder as the "New FS2". It's a clean install with no mods what-so-ever. I think it is bad coding in the FS2.exe file. Or even within the .dll. maybe even the .vp file themselves. Let me know if the link works.

You could be right. Maybe I should uninstall and re-install the original FS-2 only?? What do you think no B-5?

I definately think you should avoid the B5 CD for now.
Before you reinstall check Data\Tables. It should be completely empty. If it isn't make a new folder called Data and rename to old one.
Also check the main folder for anything ending in .vp You should only have these ones.
# root_fs2.vp
# sparky_fs2.vp
# sparky_hi_fs2.vp
# stu_fs2.vp
# tango1_fs2.vp
# tango2_fs2.vp
# tango3_fs2.vp
# smarty_fs2.vp
# warble_fs2.vp

I'll give a try and see what happens.

Okay, the seller describes the Babylon 5 mod as "no use to me without the game". That means it's not the latest version, which is a complete standalone game.
Go to the B5 forum and download the latest version. It installs separately from FS2 so you'll have no conflicts whatsoever. :)

Isn't the SCP supposed to be in the same dir as FS2? I always had problems when I tried to run them in separate directories.
-
I think what he means that he's done is install a second copy of FS2 in a different folder from the copy he has and is running FS2_Open on. Now why you'd do that is beyond me.
-
Plus if you read what he said entirely he mentioned the Narn Gorith (a Fabio deisgn) last time I mentioned that in the B5 forum innocently with no knowledge it was a fan design they freaken on me and it is NOT in R1, R2,or R3 so if that person he bought it from included it then it is a HACKED version anyway and who know what else he tinkered with and what other errors are in it! Dump that disk and go to the B5 pages here and follow the links to R3 and you will be a happier person.
-
The disk included in the deal is not what they advertised on E-Bay. It's a blank CD-R with Babylon 5 written on it. It should say "hacked". I believe it's supposed to be an add on for FS-2 but now after reading your e-mails it sounds like "she" doesn't know what the heck is going on.
So my next question is where do I go to find the real B-5. And when I do get it where is it supposed to go. A stand-alone directory or an addition to FS-2. I'm a little confused as to what should/shouldn't go where.
Is there Source coding for B-5 or is it a completely separate program independent of FS-2??
Oh yes by-the-way, I have deleted and re-installed FS-2 OEM and you where right Karajorma, it is a conflict with the hacked B-5 install. The weapons seemed to have been stripped from the FS2/data file area after the bad B-5 install. I can't remember the exact directory but anway it's now OK without the B-5 hacked version in.

That, of all questions, is easy to answer. ;)
