From the WoW-Europe.com site
Blizzard Entertainment today announced that World of Warcraft has become an overnight success in Europe, achieving record-breaking sales in its first 24 hours since the game launched on Friday, 11th February. World of Warcraft has sold-through an estimated 280,000* copies at retail on day-one, selling more units in one day than what was previously thought to be the overall cumulative size of the European MMORPG market. This figure rose to more than 380,000 units being sold-through by the end of the first weekend.
*CHA-CHING*
Pretty impressive. no wonder the servers went berserk yesterday. A few hundred thousand new players is a heavy payload dropped on them :p
-
Christ. :eek2: I didn't think MMO games were that popular... Blizzard are going to be minted.
-
Money fight!
-
No ****. The mmorpg scene hasn't seen anything of the like. But its Blizzard, what did you expect? :D
Look at me for example, I didn't wait for this game. I heard of it, but didn't want to buy it. Then I saw the beta. Then I had to buy it. Go figure... :D
-
I don't even know what it is, to be honest. Is it another Dungeons and Dragons orcs-vs-wizards-vs-dwarves type thing? I played the demo of Baldur's Gate 2 a while back, and it was unbelievably crap. I was some dude in a cage, and I tried to escape and got the crap kicked out of me by some huge bat thingy. :wtf: I battered the crap out of it with a large stick, but it wouldn't die for some stupid reason...
-
Yes and no. While I personally like BG2, the first level was absolute crap. Which is the stuck in the cage one. WoW is more of a 3rd person 3D RPG Diabloesque gaming experience. But alot better. I can't quite place it yet, buts its just... Cool. That giddy feeling you get when you just bought yourself something really cool. But this feeling continues for days on end. If you got a friend who has it, I suggest you give it a go.
-
I can't wait for world of starcraft :nervous:
-
next SC game is Ghost, and that's it, like it or not :p
-
Which is a real shame seeing as how StarCraft continues to have the largest following worldwide of any game Blizzard has ever released. I still think they've got something secret on the back burner besides Ghost; the market's just too ripe to not be taking advantage of it.
-
there were a few leaks of Starcraft 2 over the last few years... and i don't blame them for it. They'd make a fortune, that's for sure. i mean SC's as old as Freespace, yet it's still one of the top 10 most played games in the world (or it was a year ago anyway). i mean, it's Korea's national sport pretty much :p they have replays on TV and such :D hugely popular
Yeah i knew WoW would 0wn as soon as it came out beta. the last few days WC3's been extremely slow, probably because all the bandwidth is going to WoW :D
-
On the other hand, if I were Blizzard, I'd be spending alot of time working on StarCraft 2 before I ever told the public anything. Its got to be one of the most anticipated sequels to a game ever and it better look, sound, and ultimately be one of the best games they have ever done. Its already got hype and it hasn't even been announced :D
-
I will admit too that the WC3 engine needs a LOT of tweaking before it's ready to do a starcraft sequal any real justice (and I think they will ultimately not only do it, but do it from the base of that engine). But the potential, if not the promise, is already there. I liked what I saw in the secret scene at the end of WC3 after you beat it on hard, even if it was very primitive.
-
lolz.
You'd think that Blizzard would have learned from the American launch of the game. The same exact thing happened then, they sold about 400,000 units by the end of the first week, and it caused all sorts of problems which are almost all gone, there are still a few issues but they're minor compared to all the crap that happened at launch.
But, yeah, I think it says something about a company when they expect to have 600,000 users by the end of the first year but they get them all by the end of the first week. And, also, for them to sell more units than the size of the predicted market.
I challenge someone to find a company that always does what Blizzard does (constantly release amazingly polished games that are instant bestsellers, and are still updating games that are 8 years old, create games that are more addicting that drugs, cigarettes, booze, and sex COMBINED), because I honestly don't think there is another one out there like it.
-
He who calls BG1 or BG2 crap, is calling Divine Fury of Punishment onto himself.

yeah, they should have refused to sell :p
Really, regarding the server crashes two days ago:
when I see the reaction of customers on the Bliz' forums, I'm amazed. Some claim that they've been on others mmorpg ( yeah right, they're n00bs :p ) and never saw that, that's complete bull :doubt: how many times did Lineage2 completly die off and I had to wait hours for it to come back?
And they go insulting Blizzard, and ask for a second free month, etc. Not, the same as above also claimed working as commercials and were much more open to their customers, how handy ( yeah right, they're schoolgirls :p )
Only thing I would have criticized is the lack of updates. Gotta admit they don't communicate much.
-
D&D since 1982 so I am qualified to say SOME of it was crap.. Anyway Never winter nights can be modded for WC3 :P that should make you all happy (especially Mr fury)...
-
I didn't expect anything less because WOW is blizzards game and they have always made awesome games that sells

Diablo 3 maybe ? that is only rumour so far but that blizzard team that made Diablo series is hiring peoples
-
380,000 users at £9.00 a month? that's er.... nearly £3.5 million EVERY month! :eek2: I AM in the wrong business!

With Diablo, Mephisto and Baal all dead for good, I highly doubt we'll ever see Diablo3 :p
That or crappy plot twist, wich I highly doubt Bliz' would commit.
-
I dunno, they could always pull a Myth 3 and do Diablo 3 in the past.
-
Meh.. id try WoW if they had a trial thing as i dont feel like spending money and im already into Anarchy Online. Besides im not a big fan of warcraft as it is, starcraft is ok, but Diablo kicks ass.
-
If I was at all remotely interested in RPGs of any kind, I might give it a try, but the idea of having to pay monthly for a game I've already purchased is a big turn-off.

(not played any of those games, but....)
Prequel?
-
Or pehaps just something that happens in the same universe as Diablo. The prequel idea sounds cool though. I like it.
-
Someone remind me what the sales figures for Halo 2 were? (for comparison)

But we already know what happened before diablo ( CF diablo1 booklet ). Not much room for human heroes or stuff, and I don't see Bliz' let us play Tyrael :P

true
-
It's no suprise. The game owns your soul the first time you touch it.
-
I suppose I'll be brutally maimed if I say it didn't appeal to me and I gave it to a friend three days after buying it?
-
Nah. Thats what I thought I first too, but then it grew on me. I suggest you give it a fwe days, 10 or so, to work its magic. I thought it wouldn't hold me for even a full week, and next thing I know its 4am and killing Gnolls in Redridge with no end in sight..
Hey, anyone wanna buy me a $40 time card? Pretty please? I haven't played in 2 weeks, and I needdds my precioussss.
ah, its worth a try
-
the game is rather boring till you hit about lvl 10, i agree. But once you get there, it's awesome. you'll start making parties, get to the good stuff in terms of skills. At lvl 10 each class get's a special ability. Like Druids get the Bear-form ability so they can transform into a bear and fight as one. Or how the hunter get's the ability to tame beasts and use them in battle as your pet. or how the Warlock get's his first strong summon in the form of a Voidwalker (which totally owns btw).
And also, from lvl 10 on, you'll get the ability to customize your character through talent points. :)
-
Hmmm. I think I value my all-too-limited time too highly to risk blowing it all playing this...

And the Priest gets some more healing stuff. :doubt: Playing a Priest is a pain in the ***, but I've heard that changes after Level 20.
Concerning D3 : there's been some speculation concerning some evil Tyrael-stuff, which seems like the only semi-viable plot twist I can imagine.
-
It's a fantastic game, apart from the connection problems - my game seems to stay connected, I can walk around and it'll remember my position when I log in next but it's impossible to fight or otherwise take any action. And the infuriating 'one minute between logins' usually results in death when that happens, which is invariably during combat.

At lvl 20 priests can get a ****load of new abilities and upgrades on old ones;
- Flash heal; Heals a friendly target for 170 to 208.
- Inner Fire (rank 2); A burst of Holy energy fills the caster, increasing his or her attack power by 35 and armor by 350 for 3 minutes.
- Renew (rank 3); Heals the target for 150 damage over 15 seconds.
- Shackle Undead; Shackles the target undead enemy for up to 30 seconds. The shackled unit is unable to move, attack or cast spells. Any damage caused will release the target. Only one target can be shackled at a time.
- Brainwash; Removes a medium amount of threat for all enemies of the target.
- Fade (rank 2); Fade out, reducing the caster's threat level on all enemies by a medium amount for 10 seconds.
- Mind Soothe; Soothes the target, reducing the range at which it will attack you by 10 yards. Only affects targets level 40 or lower. Lasts 15 seconds.
But still, I hate healer classes :p The Paladin is way better if you want a healer. he has healing magic, extremely good buffs and debuffs and he can deal respectable damage.
Also, once you get into PvP with a Priest, prepare to die very quickly. healers are always taken out first :p
-
Yep. "Shoot the medic!"
-
And that would be my job if I was playing on a PvP server :p
Go hunters :D
Btw, WoW is the best game I've ever played, period.
Oh, and I must be lucky, coz connection problems have occured only a couple times to me :)
That said, dying in WoW is not a big catastrophe ( you just have to walk bak to your corpse), nothing comparable to, say, Lineage and its awfull XP and gear drop :doubt:
