"It was the dawn of the third age of mankind"
It's in the final conversion stage and will most definitely be in the next update.
And for those who actually read the text under pretty pictures, here's a special bonus: Download (Save target as, 16MB, XviD codec required) (http://n.ethz.ch/student/ebuerli/download/tbp/B5_teaser_xvid.avi)

So, ah, when's the next update? :p
-
After the next teaser.
-
Crikey.
-
Dude!!
maybe now I can do my Severed Dreams Fred effort.....
-
W00tness.
-
Yeah. thats our preliminary stuff. The nebulae still suck, epsilon 3 is too blurry ( we work on it ) and the station gets some final tweaking. Glowmaps are still missing.
Roanoke, you can sign on with the campaign team !
The civil War campaign features a SEVERED DREAMS mission.
Oh yeah, our 47 mission campaign will start getting developed when scripts are completed and remaining models are done. Some are still getting improved ( was playing around with Omega, ET1 !!!!!!!!! )
Campaign team gathering will start somewhere in march.... spread the news and sign on, this will be the BIG one !
-
I first started texturing this beast about 3-4 years ago. The final result is fantastic and I think it's great what this mod has achieved. Everyone should be really proud of their contribution the babylon 5 station and the EA civil war compaign should be the jewel in the crown of this mod. Bring it on....and let the word spread - this mod deserves more recognition.
-
Wow... So are you guys ever going to give the Aurora and Badger a makeover (points to untextured high-poly cockpited models on HD).
-
What were the first and second ages of mankind anyway?

I notice the
Battlecrab's
maps aren't animated...:(
-
Bah! It wouldnt be that hard to animate them!
*watches vid*
!!Hot DAMN!!
*heads to firstones*
-
BTW there is a slight mapping error, check the video at about 24 seconds in. A grey circle is off on the model a tiny bit.
-
So... how powerful is the Shadow slicer beam ingame, anyway?
-
Awesome work guys!!! :)
JMS would be proud.
-
lol, so how long has B5 been WIP?
-
A long time. I can remember seeing some VERY old screen shots, back on the old server in 2002/3 or so. Before R1, I believe.
-
Yes this model has been around for a long, long time in some form or other. It's also been touched by many people in the course of it's life.
Wingnut bult the original model.
I rebuilt the model.
Tomcat tweaked the model.
CptWhite textured some of the model.
I reuvmapped and retextured the model.
Stithe2000 uberized and retextured the model.
ColFishguts shinemapped the model.
And still to be done...
Stithe2000 or me convert the model.
I glowpoint the model.
JMS blows up the model because it's a hazard to navigation.

You know someone should show JMS... If that was a Battlestar I'd be emailing Richard Hatch. Actually if that was a Battlestar Richard Hatch would probably be emailing me - but that's another story.

Not quite but very powerful compared to anything but other FO weapons.

Got a few questions. How are you gonna impliment docking bays? In the show, fighters depart from the Cobra and other launch bays down the sides of the station, then return through the primary docking bay. However at present, SCP lacks the ability to designate for any object, which bay it will arrive from and depart through. Will you be petitioning the SCP team to code some kind of solution to this? Furthermore, how do you plan on solving the rotation issue for the main docking bay? Most ships that enter through there are too wide to fit through the the bay at its shortest width. Are you gonna use a path method that forces the ship though an axial rotation of sime kind, or will you just terminate the docking path just outside the station, so the vessel just dissapears before entering the bay?
Going form docking bays to dock points, if you're gonna code yourselves a "Severed Dreams" mission, you'll have to incude the event where the breaching pod docks with B5. In the episode, it docks in Brown Sector, which is part of the rotational section. However, not only can you not mount a dockpoint to a rotating submodel, but it would be virtually impossible for the breaching pod to dock with something moving both lateraly and around. Will you simply place a dockpoint there and be damned with rotation, or will you place it on the non-rotating rear-section? Either way, you're gonna half to give up some degree of accuracy.
Of course, I thought the movie was well done, and I was wickedly surprised by the ending. Was the engine sound coded in, or was it just added in by dubbing? I'd also like to again point out the lack of those knob things on the arms that "cradle" B5's forward sphere section. I know that its hard to keep a working model with so many polys, but that was just to counter the "Its just like on TV" remark... since its not entirely accurate. That said, great job, and I look forward to seeing her in-game in the next update!
Later!

That is pretty good. The only thing I was missing in the video were some repair crews working here and there. :D
-
Pimped @ SB
...as usual :D
-
:eek2: @ this thread.
Hey stingray, welcome to HLP. :)
:welcome:
-
Wow.
-
Just Amazing . Its gonna look spectacular with glow maps/points.
-
Beautiful work of art

....
The sounds were mixed in manually.
As for docking, afaik dockpoints on rotating objects should be possible now with Goobs multi docking code....haven't tested it yet though.

Now frontpage at FirstOnes.com.
-
amazing! I wounder wat JMS would say....
-
Awesome work guys!
-
O_O
Ok....I can't seem to find my lower jaw. Can someone help me? ;)
-
Is the TBP B5 in right scale when compared the Babylon 5 in series, I can't seem to remember how long B5 is excatly
Other than that, job beyond imagination. Bless you Staff of TBP, Bless you !
-
SWEET  but when you guys do get it ingame my computer will never run it :(
-
I'm pretty sure it's been stated in the series that B5 is 8 km (5 miles) long, but then again it's been so long since I've seen the series that I might just be making up numbers...
-
Yeah.. 5 miles..
And the B5 will kill my 'puter too :(
-
It's... a big tube!

Hurry, hurry.

Strangely enough, after the video was release we got a lot new downloads...
-
hmm that sure is an interesting coincedence
-
I have been circulating alot of news about your lots exellent achievements in the Real World, that may have made a minor difference (3 or 4).
-
Do what Fergus does, tell of TBP to your friends. We can never have too many players :)
Not that 6000 base downloads is a bad thing at all, especially so with a space sim based on a relatively marginal scifi show. I'm starting to hope we can eventually reach 10k ;7
-
Lieutenant! You're finnish? Damn. Are there more finnish people working on TBP other than you and Fury?
Hmm.. TBP. Made by finnish, for finnish :drevil:
-
I think there are five of us, altough not all of us are active. And yes, we are plotting to take over the whole project :drevil:
-
Five? Excellent :drevil:
And your sig is wierd but funny
EDIT:
:sigh: This should be under Lt.'s post...
-
6 finnish staff members out of 28 isn't bad at all. And by the way, we recently passed 5k Base downloads from official locations, not 6k.
Star Trek's timewarps are invading B5...

I know, but I also accounted the 1000 downloads from here:
http://www.peliplaneetta.net/tiedostot/modit-moninpelit/yksinpelimodit/5076/
-
1k downloads just from Peliplaneetta? That's pretty impressive. I wonder what's the real count...
-
And maybe a few hundred more from pelit.fi. I don't know the true numbers but I presume it's quite a lot as the site has a few thousand visitors each day and we were on the frontpage for a while.
-
Oh man, only if there could be better multiplayer like FPS style join and play.
-
This vid got me silenced for a few minutes...after that I was all over MSN/ICQ telling people to download it :)
Very nice work!
-
We should probably wait until the TBP team actually releases it...
-
Hmm, I have a feeling that alot of people are going to copy the Station and the assorted background materials for thier own Babylon 5 moments. But as I have no idea if there were any, I may be talking nonsense.
-
I'm not TBP Staff memeber, but I'm also Finnish ! There is really suprising number of Finnish people involved in this glorious project.
-
Somehow, I think B5 would weigh many billions of tons, not 2.5 million. A Fenris cruiser would probably weigh at least 50 million tons, and it would be like a fly compared to B5.

Uh, not quite. A Fenris is what, 300m long? Now your average aircraft carrier is almost that size, and weighs (or rathe displaces) 60,000-odd tonnes at most (perhaps not that much?). A Fenris would probably weigh a few times more - armour and whatnot is quite heavy - but 50 million is rather far-fetched. You'd have a hard job just finding 50 million tonnes of steel, let alone making a ship out of it.
I suspect the station would weigh something like a couple of million tonnes - I don't know anything about B5 so I don't know if it's armoured or whatever, but 2.5mt is a lot of metal, so it sounds fairly realistic to me...
-
I tend to agree with Pyro, the station is mostly hollow with only the outer shell spinning at the correct speed to give gravity (see any B5 interior shot) so would weigh a lot less that what meats the eye.
Also Ha y Pyro im back guese who!?
-
Be off, back-from-the-dead-person. :p:D Go and look at some SCP stuff...
I should probably play this mod, actually - it's been on my HDD for a while now. Hafta get my project work out of the way and then see what all the fuss is about...
-
2k d/ls from shareprovider.com
-
Wow. You guys have done great job on that beast.
-
... and you haven't seen it with the lights turned on yet.
-
Oooooooooooo
-
then post a screeny of it with lights on please

I think it's in reference to some literary thing, where the first stage is being an infant and dependant upon the parents. The second being where they're under the guidance of their parents, and the third age is when they strike out on their own.
It's somewhat similar to Lord of the Rings, which uses the same idea. The action in Lord of the Rings takes place in the third age, and in that the kind of old, wise people the elves are leaving and man has to make a world for themselves kind of thing. (If you notice, when Gandalf is in the library in the first movie reading about the previous war he mentions that it's the second age).
I'm not quite sure of where it comes from, maybe someone else can lend more insight.
-
Originally said by Sheridan in Into The Fire
"We are all alone now, just the younger races. We can't blame anyone else from now on. It's a new age, Delenn, a third age."
"Why third?"
"We begun in chaos, too primitive to make our own decisions. Then we were manipulated from outside by forces that thought they knew what was best for us. And now .. now we are finally standing on our own. Lorien was right, it's a great responsibility. This is ours now."
-
Sheridan reveals what the 3 ages were at the end of Into the Fire.
In the first age human were primatives unable to make our own choices.
In the second age humans were manipulated by outside forces who had their own agendas
The third age is when humanity is finally standing on it's own two feet.
So you're not too far wrong Akalabeth
-
Actually, i always thought "the third age of mankind" was a reference to "The Seven Ages of Man", by William Shakespere.
-
So that would make it "The whining schoolboy with his satchel, creeping unwillingly to school", or was it the lover? :wtf:
-
One of the two.
-
Would the Fourth Age be where mankind starts guiding and ****ing with other races, like the Vorlons and Shadows? And then the Fifth Age could be when mankind goes beyond the Rim to join Lorien and the First Ones.
-
Well humanity does end up as energy beings like the Vorlons were but hopefully they learned their lessons from the way the Vorlons screwed up.
