This is my tribute to the FS community:
The Mod starter pack
I got many requests for some effects from smaller and bigger mods. I noticed that most of the time these people only wanted to have different effects, rather than asking for a special effect.
So I decided to create some effects for all mods.
This package includes mostly effects, but also some anis and maps.
It's a small package for now.

Hey brain, looks great! Question, ie, if I wanted to use teh ani for the runway instead of teh normalorion one HOW do I list that in model view for changing textures? do I call it ani? will it recognise it as a texture?

If you just want to replace the old glow map then just rename it to 'capital01-04a-glow.ani'.
But never forget this was tossed as the moving lights are visible on multiple parts of the ship.
I still think it look kinda nice. Check it out.

However when someone finishes off the High Poly Orion this could easily be incorporated :D

Actually, I wanted a genreal info thing. Like changing the strip on the saturn I'm using with the runway blinking texture or any other experiments in texture replcement. But that should work ;) jpg and tga doesn;t work for me (regard les of using the command line options) So I have a great deal of problems. I have to convert them to pcx. If I use any other builds other than basic I get constant CTD...
True this means my crappy system is limited but I still get things done.

That's strange, did you report this bug?
What are your system specs?

yeah I reported this long ago when I encountered the missing textures for secondary weapons in the SCP thread. I was told to change the .pcx's to jpegs or tgs's and even then it didn;t woprk. I canmake new beams frine but new secondaries are a no no. the textures won't appear I posted screens showing that only the trials show up.
Anyway my system is a 1.8ghz P4
512 DDR ram
with a ati 7200 all in wonder 64mb tv-in-out card (how I made my teaser trailer for mission 5)
I can run FS open with only -glow -shine otehrwise I get many graphical glitches and crashes cause of conflicts which is fine I still can use it for expanded limits and sexp's...
IF I get anything back this year after tax time I mgiht have enough for a new card but I am not holding my breath...

Well, now this is even more strange...
I thought you'd write something like Voodoo3 or Intel (whatever).
But an ATI 7200 is no uncommon card.
Have you tried different gfx drivers?
(AFAIK the 7200 has T&L, right?)

I'm thinking about another, lager pack.
Well, I won't waste my time. So if the first one wasn't used yet, I don't think I'll work on another one.
Did someone actually use my stuff already?
Edit: I forgot to mention an important thing. If I work on another pack, I'd like to ask all modders for help.
If you have some spare models, maps, or effects, we yould put all this stuff together so we have a good basis for some new mods.

I think I will use some effects in my campaigns. :) Actually, I'm pretty sure I will. :D

I don't really have much use for the effects, but I do like the Shivan tile. The others are a little too chaotic for my tastes, but I'll keep them all around anyway. It's a useful pack, all said, but I don't think it's marketed correctly for the target audience.

Interesting. How should I market it?
@aldo Sounds good. I hope we can put together something useful. :) Maybe I'll create some models too. I'll just have to improve my skills before. ( http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=462 )
The UV mapping will be a problem though... :(
@all The next pack will include some animated particles.
I saw what Nuke was able to do with even some simple particles.
Quite impressive.

I'm really just suggesting that you focus on either effects or textures for any subsequent packs. I'm not actively making a mod, so I didn't look at this for the longest time since it is mostly effects. But I missed a potentially very useful subset of textures in the process. So for future packs, do either all effects or all textures so that people like me who just poke around on the side can get what they want, when they want.

i'd be interested in these, but there's no point in d/ling them at the moment 'cuz i really should reformat me PC anyway... o.O

There are only a few tile maps in anyway...
But their were also ment to be a basis for your own textures.
Well, I'll try to add more tiles in the next pack.
Had not time to start working on it though.

Do you take requests, DaBrain? There's an effect that I would need for my campaign. I'll start working on my campaign after DT is finished, so I don't need the effect right now, but it's good to now If you can help :)

Well, yeah I still take requests. Just PM me what you need. I'll work on it as soon as I get the time and/or a good idea to realize it.
There is no problem adding this effect later to the package version 2, is there?
