Hey all. As some of you may know, I like making ships.
I like making ships a lot.
However, I have a problem with making ships. I can't texture to save my life :( I need someone to do it for me...you can choose to texture just a few, or all of them if you're interested in joining a long-term project.
If you're a campaign lead or what have you, I will trade you a textured one of my ships, for a modeled ship of yours (of course, untextured).
If you're a loving, caring individual, who cares about my sanity, please pleeeeeeease help meeeeeeeeeeeee :( Name your price and if it's reasonable, I'll make a trade with you!
(NOTE: The ships don't have to be converted, all they need to be is textured.)

can't see the pics.
-
I don't think there are any ;)
As for me, I'm trying to learn to texture, so I'm not much use....

Catch a man a fish, he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime.
UT, if you're using 3DS Max I can teach you how to apply, map and unwrap textures. My contact info's in my profile.

Give a man a fire, he will be warm for a few hours.
Set him on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

I know actually how to UVwrap, texture, etc, the only problem is, I can't make good textures :( All mine come out looking cartoony and flat, and the panel lines lack any depth.
And anyway, browse through the art forum, you can see a lot of them are there.
-
Ah, well, that's different. :)
I also can't make good textures. Sorry, I can't really help you there.
EDIT: WTF? Quick trip into the future?
-
Too bad my plates full already... :blah:
-
I feel your pain
-
Hell, let's bam this up another notch :D
Is anyone here willing to join a large project, with high hopes and an even higher potential?
Using almost every feature of the SCP, this project aims to bring the Freespace 2 engine to a whole new playing field, where big jets and even bigger guns enter an arena where anything is possible.
All I need right now are the texturers. You sign on, you get on for as long as you want. If you want some of the basic test stuff, just ask, and I'll send them (it's mainly tables, a couple effects, and a test mission). It's gotten good reviews from my other testers so far, so I hope you all like it :)

You'll get alot of n00bs, but the ones with known talent are taken...

Have you tried shinemapping them? Just a copy-paste of the textures to a shinemap (With a few black lines for large indentations) can help a lot.
-
I haven't tried shinemapping them yet, because I want to get the models looking good outside of FS2 first, and right now the textures are nowhere near good enough.
-
If you want, I can show you the source PSD's for either my Losna or Kelpie, if it'll help you to try to figure out how to do it?
-
Problem is more I don't know how to add those details. I can see them in the other textures, I can recognize them, but I don't know how to put them in, nor do I know how I can make, say, panel lines look like panel lines, and not just black lines running across the craft.

embose
-
embossing does it rather uglily, though. I add all my plate lines by hand.
-
How?
-
Draw lower opacity (about half IMO) white lines parallel and about-a-pixel offset to the balck tiles. Best use layers to finetune the opacity of that.

Dodge an burn ,dodge and burn, wax on ,wax off, wax on, wax off

-
dodge and burn? Err... not. Like aldo says, I use the line tool to put highlights in, and then link all the lines to a layer, and adjust the opacity... Same with dark lines. That way, you don't ruin the image if you mess up.

*bump*
Any interest at least in the project?
