"Day of Defeat: Source, Valve's World War II-themed multiplayer action game, is approaching beta and will be available early this spring via Steam. A team-based multiplayer game that cast players in the Axis vs. Allies battles of Western Europe circa 1944, Day of Defeat: Source leverages the power of the Source engine to introduce integrated physics simulation technology, all new audio, updated maps, enhanced effects and more. More information about Day of Defeat: Source will be released in the coming weeks."

Steam...
...wow, just saying it leaves a bad tste in my mouth... :ick:
-
Whoo...another WWII shooter.
Funny, though, I was just lookin for screenies. Looks ok, but I bet MOH:PA is better.
-
Oh good, another WWII shooter.
-
Another 'western front' WWII shooter.
-
you guys do know what Day of Defeat is, right?

Could care less. If STEAMing pile is in there, it's not coming with 10 feet of my computer.
-
when is an American Revolutionary War shooter coming out?
-
Yeah, cuz I can't wait to use muskets.
*Pick up bullets. Spend 12 minutes loading a pellet into your gun. Fire and miss. Rinse, Repeat* ;)
-
LOL Carl, you've just reminded me of an old game called 'Johnny Reb' that was on the Amstrad. It was a civil war strategy game, and was actually quite good.
I feel old.

I honestly don't think any of them know... :wtf:
-
No, can't say I do. I just saw the screenshots. :D
-
Ive played DoD before (on CS?) Good MOD, nicely done.
-
Its a mod for Half Life 1, one of the most popular mods around. Day of Defeat: Source is to Day of Defeat what CounterStrike:Source is to the original CS.
So, its not another WW2 shooter, just an update of an already existing mod, which will probably be released as a full commercial one.
-
I'll never forget when my account was banned, you all remember that right? If it happens again, it will be time to get out the letter bombs. By the way, I did get it back after raising hell on the steam forums.
-
I don't remember. What happened?

So it's... another WWII shooter redone?
-
Wow...another derivative FPS with the exact same gameplay as all the other FPSes. Wake me when people start wanting variety in games again. :p
-
ugh, howmuch money will this cost? depending on how it is done....it might be worth playing.
-
The textures are nice, but the models look a little low-poly.
Probably not going to end up getting it if I have to spend more than $10.

*load breech*

*stand motionless while other side fires at you from point blank range*
*die*
*respawn*
*repeat*
yeah. sounds really fun.

Hey, don't forget the bayonet charge! You'd get some good old hand-to-hand combat in if you get past the initial random death of the first volley.

Aren't you describing a game of Counterstrike? :p
-
No, that's TacticalOps. Although then it goes like:
"knife???????"
"knife!
"knife"
"knife!!111"
"knifeknifeknifeknifeknife"
"ok meet me at terrorist spawn"
"k"
*They meet at terrorist spawn jumping with knives*
*One guy slices the other*
*The other guy brings out a Parker-Hale and blows the first guy's head off*
"****ER"
"vote 5 lamer"
"vote 5 lamer"
"vote 5 lamer"
"vote 5 lamer"
"vote 5 lamer"
Counterstrike is:
"ok lets rush tunnel"
"k"
"ok"
*Everybody rushes tunnel*
*BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!! POW!!! RATATATATATA BOOM!!!*
*Everyone on both sides is dead, except for a terrorist with the bomb and an AFK CT*
"Bomb has been planted."
*beep...beep....beep*
"omg"
"wtf"
"lol afk"
*guy comes back, starts heading for the bomb; walks through a doorway*
*pow pow pow*
*BOOOOOOOOOM!!!*
"camper!!!11"
"it's a legitimate strategy dumbass!!"
-
Call of duty's more fun.. particularly the russian missions
-
Great, yet anoether WW2-shooter :doubt: I want muskets, dammit! :(
-
An American Civil War shooter with muskets, cannons, and Gatling guns might work..
It would also be an excuse for those people that like it to come out with stuff like:
"The South's gonna rise agin!"
"Damn you Johnny Reb!"
"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn"
Etc.. :p
-
Death to historical shooters.
Those screenshots look pretty bad anyway.

Except historical Shooters from the Future, of course. :p
to be terribly honest, i'm pretty nonplussed about the prevelance of war based shooters, i'm eagerly awaiting to get my hands on other, shooters however, none of which are based in WW2, etc
-
There is still 2 WW2 fps games I'am waiting Call of duty 2 and Brothers in arms both are released this year. Bia is released next month and COD 2 is supposed to be launch title for Xbox 360 [Xbox2
but yeah WW2 fps are getting boring I'am jut waiting when somebody start doing WW1 games.:D

Not going to comment of DoD: Source but I can't but wonder what do people have against Steam. IMHO it's step to right direction. Maybe far from perfect but step to right direction nevertheless.

Actually there were a few some months ago. 'Gods and Generals' and a few others. G&G being a movie game, poorly made one at that, and the rest just knock-offs.
And then there's that 'Wanted!' mod for the original HL, though thats more wild-west than civil war...

Triple Ace can tell you one of the reasons it's ****e. Everyone else can tell you the many other reasons.

Well, I have nothing bad to say about Steam and even then, I'm not saying its perfect. I just have the impression that people whine about Steam just because they can. And they have to blame something on problems that'd occur regardless of Steam.
Oh well, each to their own.

I dunno mate. I had to install 35 copies of HL2 and thus Steam in our MSc computer labs and it's caused me no end of problems. Hell a load of school kids turned up yesterday for an hour long lab doing map editting in Hammer and Steam spent the first 45 minutes of the session doing a forced update!

MSc computer labs? right, **** work, I'm off to do an MSc!*
* PHd, actually. Well, maybe.
-
Yes we look after our MSc students here. It's a LAN party every night here.
-
The reason those screenshots don't look so great is because they haven't updated the textures or models yet, and have only just ported the existing ones over to the Source engine.

I can think of one good reason: the fact that you have to use it to validate a game you're intending to play in singleplayer.

Good to see the top-up fees are being used wisely, then
:p

My favorite quote about Counterstrike comes from Battle_Spirit, who used to play Jedi Knight II a year or so back.
"Go play Counterstrike. That's where the ***holes are."
You know what we need? A tank simulator. Shooter feel and some armorplate to hide behind. I eagerly await my copy of Panther. Nevermind it doesn't exist.
