can you guysrecommend soem fighter sim ... no prop planes though :) modern day interceptors is the keyword :)
-
LO-MAC
-
Yes, LOMAC definately. Although if you can find them, and don't mind them being a little dated, get Jane's F-15 and F/A-18.
I'd recommend Falcon 4, but that sim is just plain anal.
-
Battlefield 1942 with Desert Combat installed! :)
-
id kill for a realistic, nam era, combat flight sim, choppers and planes.
-
Forgotten Battles+Ace Expansion Pack+Pacific Fighters! :)
What....there's a couple of jets in there. Try the Me-262 :D
-
dc flight combat is plain unrealistic :)
i used to kill troops by squashing them in a mig 29 ... just fly close enough to the ground and splat :)
-
Lock-on modern air combat or those games that Ice suggested
edit: i really hate timewarp:hopping:
-
I never said it was realistic, but it's damn fun ;)
-
Speaking of Jane's combat simulations, whatever happened to them anyway? Jane's F/A-18 and Jane's USAF were some of the best modern combat flight sims in the world.

Bingo, Best flight sims ever.:)
-
Just don't play Jet Fighter IV or any of the other ones from that series. They're not too good.
-
Lock On just got an addon that came out too. Lockon 1.1: Flaming Cliffs (some sort of Russian translated name :D).
The demo is good fun but I'm still learning how to fly the A-10 and then operate its various complex systems. I did figure out how to use Sidewinders however...that was no problem.

Planes?
Strike Fighters: Project 1 I believe is set in the Vietnam area...altho it might be Korea. I do know there was also a Korean war sim, MiG Alley.
-
I heard Strike Fighters was a buggy mess, though.
-
I heard it was too, but it got some patches and now it's supposadly super good.
-
Falcon 3.0 remains my favorite, with its alterable realism settings.
-
are there *any*realistic combat chopper sims out there? somethong newer would be better. it needs to support my x-52 :D

Hmmm, the only one I can think of is Apache/Havoc, it hasn't been in stores for years, but you could probley find it on ebay real cheap.
I don't play Lo-Mac that much anymore, because of it's bad framerates.:sigh:
-
For those interested in Lomac like I am, try the Lock On 1.1 demo. Can be found here: http://www.lockon.ru/
As I understand it WeatherOp, if you're having difficulties with the FPS in Lockon, you should ask around and see if they have a solution for you. I know with IL2 FB the right driver version and the right settings in the INI files works wonders between a 20fps slideshow and a 50fps enjoyable experience.
Check this thread out on SimHQ too: http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=37;t=006601

Thats the funny part, I can barely run LO-MAC at 25, when I play IL-2FB-Ace running over 45 with 2X AF and AA. I used to be pretty good at IL-2 ace, but I've stoped playing it for the moment, and is PF any good, I've herd bad things about it, but I've learned not to trust the reviewers.
And Ice what plane do you use the most on IL-2, mine is the FW-190 A4 or the FW-190 A8.
-
In IL2 I tend to focus on the FW190A and D's of all models (I'm most at home in the A-6 and D-9) as well as the Ta-152H when I'm feeling dangerous. For the Allies, I like the Spitfire VIII, Mustang, Corsair, and Yak-9.
I do fly pretty much everything going....so thats my short list :)
Pacific Fighters has its problems but if you have FB and AEP already then I would strongly recommend getting PF as well. There's new addons for the merged install option coming that will add some more new eastern front maps (Murmansk and Kurland - Kurland is a FW190 paradise apparently :D) and new aircraft for all fronts.
The problems with PF relate to the standalone install and it mostly has to do with content. Although the Pacific theater content is a ton more than came with CFS2 (stock) its just not quite enough or coheisve enough to do everything wanted. That said, the addon (which is free BTW) that is coming is supposed to remedy that to a certain extent. The fact that no carrier torpedo aircraft are flyable at this time is fairly annoying but the fun you get from 3 theaters of operations with new aircraft that can be used in all of them (the A-20 for instance - which IMHO does carry a torpedo) is great.
Consider it....I strongly recommend if you have both FB and AEP (thus allowing you to merge your installation).

To properly tune LOMAC download LOMAN - Lock On Managger.
Get the fast overcast low / med replacement textures (LOMAN compatible version) and install them with LOMAN.
Use LOMAN to tune the graphics.
-
Incidentally, can someone give me a link to the newest IL2:FB patch? The website just redirects to the Pacific Fighters site.
(it's odd.... I never really got into IL-2; I was not very good for one thing; yet I somehow still took out 2 190s on the first campaign mission I played. And then crashed trying to land....)
-
Patches can all be found here for IL2, FB, AEP, and PF.
http://www.3dgamers.com/games/il2sturmovik2/downloads/
If you only have FB then the last patch was 1.21 and 1.22. The 1.21 patch adds three new maps (Normandy, Ardennes, and Pacific Island Dogfight) and several new planes (B-17, C-47 AIs and P-51D-5, Ki-84 and A6M5).
