How f***ed up is this? they're not even attacking the Americans, they're slaughtering their own people! I'll never understand their mindset. :blah:

They're attacking they're on own people who they believe are collaborators. And they don't use the term collaborator the way you or I would - they mean anyone who isn't actively resisting the infidel.
This is how Islamic terrorism lost popularity during the mid 90's among muslims - unfortunately the western response in recent years has just given these people more credibility and thus increasing their popularity again.

iirc, they're sunni insurgent/terrorists then in their mindset they are not attacking their own people. Far from it actually.

Cowardly ****ers. No punishment is terrible enough for them.
-
They're already dead you moron.

It's not exactly shocking, really; ever since the war was declared 'over' the Sunni insurgents have been targeting the Shia parts of the country in order to stir up a civil war.
The other effect is scaring people away from joining the Iraqi security, government, etc, services - essentially making it impossible for any form of independent government to even try to exist ( one which is not dependent on US troops for 'security', for example). As a result the US either has to commit to a longer and longer term stay (getting stuck deeper into the quagmire and strengthening the political and popular opposition at home), or back out early (humiliating themselves across the world and handing a victory to guerilla forces and possibly islamic militants).
And if there is a civil war sparked off, then the US is truly ****ed - they'd be caught in a 2, 3, or n-way battle (Sunni vs Shia, Sunni vs Shia with Kurdish bid for independce, the last one with Turkey and Iran wading in....or so on); they couldn't really take sides, because the weakest side - the minority - is the Sunni community that has pretty much rejected them.
Of course, you already knew that anyway...

as much as i opposed initially going in for obvious reasons once we're in we need to clean up our mess
these people are idiots, but this would have never happened had the origional centcomm plan been followed
but that's for another thread
--------------------
these people (muslim terrorists) are insane, i know muslims who want to kill these people more than we do because these insane a-holes are giving a bad reflection on the rest of them
not like that's too difficult: see sharia law
-
You have to remember that people are fundamentally bastards, when it comes down to it. Remember that, and everything starts to make more sense....
-
Such a rational explanation there.
-
actually pyro's basically correct - we're always out for our own best interest
just in this case it doesn't apply because obviously these people have no self preservation
can't we just let them kill themselves off
-
I like to bring that up but the people I talk to in RL get mad when I say that. Like we are suposed to protect them or something.

(I'm presuming you're not being sarcastic here....)
Actually, (IIRC) under the Geneva convention the US (plus the poors saps who let themselves dragged into it - Uk, Ozzies, etc) is obliged to ensure security as an occupying power.
-
Yup, thats right. But so far, they've provided security by basically treating the whole country as one big free fire zone, which has resulted in more suffering than the problem which they are allegedly trying to solve in the first place.

What a brilliant statement there. I guess I didn't know that. Or maybe, just maybe, I was referring to the leadership of these organizations, the ones who goad on whackjobs to blow themselves to smithereens. You figure it out.

105 dead? I heard there were more! I remember 120-125.
News of the day, no doubt.
