The contract, heavily censored before release, asks researchers to look for "optimal pulse parameters to evoke peak nociceptor activation" - in other words, cause the maximum pain possible. Studies on cells grown in the lab will identify how much pain can be inflicted on someone before causing injury or death.
Man I want one of those.
*zap* *violent screams* "HAhAhAHAHAAH!"
:p
-
US military, eh? Who'd have thunk it?
-
Can I honestly say that I'm surprised? Nope.
-
the klingons already developed the agonizer.
-
Its only pain... Soldiers will no doubt be trained afterwards to realise that the pain inflicted does not cause bodily damage, therefore is not dangerous. Just hurts alot. That... And alot of combat drugs, and were laughing.
-
It's called the Sunshine Project, so is therefore harmless...:nervous:
-
Heheh. What was that song? "Don't forget your sun screen."
-
lol @ carl
You have to admit, it would make for an interesting party trick, where everyone suddenly cries out in agony. hehehe.
-
They want to build Zat'ni'katel (http://www.gateworld.net/omnipedia/technology/z/zatnikatel.shtml) ? :D
-
Hhehe.
It would be awsome if you could inflict it on yourself.
Make yourself immune to pain...
-
Or just brain dead.
-
Meh, either way.
-
It was quite effective in the Stainless Steel Rat:
The pain unit had total sensory control of the victim, even to the extent of recreating a complete scenario where his hands were chopped off by his captors. He saw, and felt, the entire event as though it were totally real, and even woke up with his hands apparently re-attached by surgery, complete with scar tissue. Of course The Rat escaped, as usual but it was an interesting chapter, being at the mercy of someone who could turn a control and make you suffer pain electronically...
-
Reminds me of an episode of the x-files.
-
This ain't too bad. A little OTT, but not so bad, all things considered.
-
what's this about hands chopped off and reattached? are you referring to the stargate weapon thing that someone posted?

Um, it's for riot-control purposes. Beats using rubber bullets which can still kill.
-
Remotely triggering spasms of pain is a good thing now? If this is used in "riot-control" in any significant way, there is every possibility that whoever this weapon is directed against might seek to even the playing field a bit, if you get my drift.
What scares me ****less is that there is no easy defense against such a weapon. Which puts 99% of the power into police hands, with the sincere trust that they would never, ever in a million years abuse such power.
-
Old news.
-
^and this is worse than rubber bullets how?
edit: and yes, this is old news.... very old news.
-
Yet interesting none the less. :)
No news like old news.
-
Just wait 'til they let all the Housewives and Soccer moms have one. The best substitute for MACE.
Then airplane pilots will use it to get drunk, then sober themselves before the plane goes ker-boom!
-
bah, pain weapons have been around for ages... it's generally referred as "pop music" :ha:

Ah... Thats right, gotcha! ...My bad.
Though inflicting maximum pain onto a riot might not be a good thing.
-
It's like wathcing everyone drop to the ground during a riot, onto thier backs, with thier legs up - doing the cockroach...
*bzzrt!*
-
How long would it take them to act at "the root of the problem?"
THose rioters shouldn't have been there to start with!
Let's develop something that detects who's gonna join a riot and administer them some preentive education.
That's why there's the thought-polic.. *chough* law enforcement.
The ministry of love will surely put a patch on this :p
-
Why does this remind me of that movie...with...the pre-emptive murder detection thing...
