Howdy,
I'm new to FS2_Open, and preparing to write some mission scripts (I won't be doing the actualy fredding); I need to know a little about the capabilities of the code:
1. Does FS2 do navpoints?
2. Can events be triggered by ship movements (rolls, banks)
3. how much control can you take over an AI ships path (for a scripted event like pursued, special maneuver, and the such)
Thanks all!

:welcome:
1) I believe that FS2_open can do Wing Commander style navpoints now because the Wing Commander Project team asked for them :)
(You'd have to ask them how they actually work cause the navpoint stuff is a big mystery to me though).
2) I asked for a couple of SEXPs that would allow you to do that recently. At the moment you can't as far as I know.
3) As far as I know nothing like that is supported. A talented FREDder might be able to hack something together though in certain cases.

*waits patiently for Silent Threat: Reborn to be released* :drevil:
Oh wait, that's my fault, isn't it... :nervous:

Hmmm. Something like that in ST:R?
I suppose you could do the second actually using the facing SEXP but it would be fairly hackish.
Hmmm. Maybe I should point out that fair's fair and I showed you mine ;)

Okay, thanks guys. That helps a lot! Anyone else has any thoughts, don't hesitate to speak up!!

Well, clever AI tricks anyway. And it's in retail, so don't expect any SCP fancyness.
On the other hand, since we've already seen that multiple ship docking, persistent variables, and your MindGames feature (or nearly the same thing) are all possible in retail, maybe I shouldn't constrain your speculations. :drevil:Hmmm. I would show you but it's one of the last missions and it would spoil a significant part of the plot. ;) You'll just have to wait.
However if you like, you can beta-test for us once we finish FREDding (although before we have voice acting).

I would love to but I really shouldn't take on any more commitments until I've gotten something out of the way :)
Although you have managed to double my interest in ST:R now :) I always knew the FREDing in that would be good but now I'm definately going to have to rip some missions apart :)

I once made a tutorial for the autopilot-functions for our fredders.
If you had interest in it (maybe for the wiki, which seems the be quite empty to me), I could overwork it a little and submit it to you. Just drop me a note if you want it.
