Title: Tech Support
Post by: Spidey- on March 05, 2005, 12:37:10 am
Just installed SCP for the first time. Most features on, I go play. Run through the training missions fine. Notice some of the enhancements, can't wait to get it looking like the BSG mod. Finnish training 3 and attemp to go on to Mission 1. Crash. Turn off all features, and crash. Remove all additional VPs. It's pretty much vanilla cept for shine maps (which I don't think works...yet). When I try to run mission 1, I get this error:

Error: Can't open file
File:E:\Languages\Visual Studio Projects\Visual C++\fs2_open\code\Model\ModelRead.cpp
Line: 1543

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully, someone can help me out.

Have you downloaded mv_effects? The file you're missing should be in that.

If you did download it is it 94,344KB in size? If not it may be corrupt and require a new download.

I dled mv_zpack, mv_aseffects, and mv_adveffects. I thought mv_effects was incorporated into mv_zpack, is it not?

you need mv_core too, unless thats part of the zpack, im not too sure about that.

The file he's missing isn't in mv_core though. New_Hornet.pof is in mv_effects and should be in mv_zPack as far as I know.

If I install mv_effects, would that affect mv_zpack?

No, it won't.

Ok, I've found the problem to be related to mv_zpack, since it works with the other vps installed(mv_adveffects,  mv_core, mv_effects).  My zpack is 94,910kb, and extracted, it's 256,773kb. Is that the right size?

ok, I'm going to try installing all the individual VPs. mv_adveffects, textures, effects, aseffects, core, models, music. Is there anything else included in the zpack that's not included? btw, what's this kpack that's not included in zpack?

kpack is way obsolete, i think that line should be deleted

IMHO we should have got rid of the zpack long ago: the development is too fast too keep it up to date, and several smaller vps make both troubleshooting and download easier (for the bandwith challanged.)

Moreover it's easier to download the smaller vp-s to upgrade than a grand file.

That's MHO too, but people like the zpack, so I've kept it around.

I say dump the zPack itself and replace it with a bundle of all the VPs in one RAR. I think people like the zPack mainly because it saves them from having to download lots of files.

mv_adveffects
mv_textures
mv_effects
mv_aseffects
mv_core
mv_models
mv_music

Are those the ones included in kpack? I've downloaded them all.

Kpack has a few odd files that didn't get put in the main 3.6 VPs.

All those files are the main mediaVPs, kpack was an offshoot. It's oprobably up for download somewhere but it's not necessary to have. I think I added a lot of stuff in it to the main VPs anyway.
