This one is gonna be my first textured cap ship (hopefully). Suggestions/comments?
I know it needs detail, please remember, this is a WIP shot, I was just wondering what sort of greebling should/can I do?

You have to do something with that front end to break it up. A notch, maybe.
-
shipp->front_end.poly_count++
-
Oooh... 24th century shotgun.
-
UT, your recent models seem kind of Homeworldy...which is a good thing.
Try some of the boxy greebling techniques Bobb used on the Orion.
-
Hey! UT finally discovers the modding section is the correct place to post models for his conversion :p
That said I agree with the general consensus that the fron needs work more than anywhere else.
-
I like the engines and the pipey bit... basically the entire back end of the ship is cool.
-
If you need some help with Nova I would like to make some models for bad guys.
-
I could use some help, yes, if you wouldn't mind :)
And I always thought the "art" went in the art section :p
Anyway, what sort of stuff can I do to the front? I'm at a loss.
EDIT: Some more detail. Still unsure as to where to go from here:

How large is this ship intended to be? That would tend to suggest what details to add.
-
More, more details..now it's too boxy
-
What kind of purpose do you have in mind for this thing UT? If you don't mind it looking a tad weaker at the front you could cut a whole straight through the front area (a horizontal square) to give it a more girder like feel (as I said - it'd look weaker but it's something you could do with it).
-
Where the "angle" is on the bow, split it in half (where the middle one of those pipes is, actually). Put a little trench along it, like on the front of the Deimos, so it looks like it's two separate armour pieces. Then jsut bevel edges, etc to make it look bigger. :)
EDIT: Yikes, that thing sticking out forwards on the bottom really spoils it. Get rid of that, before you do anything else.
-
The spoon on the chin is really out of place; I don't object to something there, just not that. Otherwise, cool design. Reminds me of the Khar-Selem, the support ship that you find destroyed in the second mission of the original Homeworld (that's not a bad thing).
-
Removed the spoon. Funny, it looked good when I put it on there :)
Anyway...it's probably going to be a light cruiser, made for general purpose fighting/long distance patroling. :)
-
random extrusions, beveling and chamfering is a good way to experiment.

Here's an update:

There's a nagging part of me that thinks that this ship is one of those ships where I see this equation:
Exposed pipes + battle damage = something on ship breaks or ship goes BOOM
I know it wont, but thats exactly why its...eggh. It looks good otherwise. I'm mostly referring to the big pipes on the side in the back. The middle one would be fine if covered by some sort of glass-like grating.
(Incidentally, why can't I recall any FS2 community ships with GRATING textures that are transparent to see stuff underneath? It seems like all outsides of all ships are solid)
Then again, I could say I'm a complete hypocrite for posting all of this because all spacecraft designs, if not most of them, that I have ever hand drawn have tons of little pipes in nooks and crannies.
I guess it depends on the design...if the pipes were redesigned here to look like handles, like a /-------\ shape... that'd be cool!
-
If I were you I would add some struts, windows, oddly shaped bumps and stuf fon the sides of the ship....not pipes..
-
looks like a layzor gun.
-
Please, please please make this some kind of an utility vessel. We have far too few of those, or they are pretty much ignored.
-
It's for a different universe. Anyway, made the middle thicker :)

Looked better before, IMO. That spoils the lines. :)
-
This design smacks of Bablyon 5 Earth Alliance style.
-
This is my first capital ship texture, so I need help...please? :)

EDIT: Updated.

Looks a bit uniform - if I were you I'd texturize the plating a bit rather than adding what seem like patchwork panels because it looks too artificial.
