As I type this, I can barely see the text on my 19" monitor at 1152x864. The time is now 7:44 AM. Last night when I decided to go to sleep at 11:00 PM, I didnt think I would be unable to fall into slumber. God is taunting me. My eyes hurt slike a sum*****, and my mind keeps drifting off into nothingness. Yet I still cannot slepp. My eyes... burning... thought pattern is uinstable. Cant see ****. Why, god? WHY??!! Why the hell have I been unable to fall asleep in the past 8 and a half hours?! AND GET THIS GODDAMN HEADACHE OUT OF MY BRAIN! It hurts because I cant sleep!
Bastards, it's all your faults.
Please excuse any non-fluent speaking. It's probably because of the damn sleep deprivation of over eight hours.

Do two things:
1) Drink a couple of glasses of water (works for me).
2) Establish a consistent and normal sleep pattern. I've had a few problems in the past...you need to have a specific time when you head off to bed.

Do two things:
1) Drink yourself into a stupor.
2) Drink yourself further into a stupor.

You know that 11:00PM thing? That IS the specific time I go to bed.

Booze might not be the best idea, mind. You could try simply staying up till you drop, but that is quite unhealthy, IIRC. Try to do some physical excersise in the future, that'll help you sleep. For now, grab a cup of tea and go to bed. Or at least just listen to some music with your eyes closed.

take ye frying pan and smash it over thy head

Antihistamines work for me. Not only does it unplug yer nose, it also helps you fall asleep. :)

I'd be careful with the notion of tea.. it does contain caffeine and sugar - two things that aren't exactly tailored to help you sleep ;)
-
Tea doesn't contain sugar unless you put it in, and the caffeine in tea is quite limited. But, if you don't like tea, you can always make hot milk :ick:.

so it's only me that get sleepy by drinking lots of coffee?
and excessive drinking never killed anyone, did it?
-
Putting sugar in your tea is the height of heresy.
-
Yup, it did. Quite often, achtually.
A few years ago, during some fraternity's initiation rites some kid killed himself after guzzling a liter bottle of something distilled, whisky or vodka or something. Created quite a stirr, IIRC.

Whenever I have trouble sleeping I simply get my copy of Titus Groan out and start reading.
I'm always out within 10 minutes.

Ny-Quil (additional alcohol is optional)

Physical activity. Dont sit on your ass all day and you will be able to sleep normally 99% of the time.

Hot? :ick: Warm, with a teaspoon of honey?
Milk, you see, has a natural sedative that comes into play when the milk is warmed up.
However, I often find that on nights when I can't sleep, it's because I'm soo tired that I keep tossing and turning in bed because it's too comfortable when you're so tired. When I catch myself tossing and turning, I force myself to find one reasonably comfortable position and lie still as long as I can. It doesn't matter if my mind is racing, it doesn't matter if there's noise, just lie still, eyes closed. That usually does it.
If it still doesn't help, you could try to make a theta brainwave file with CoolEdit 96 (they have instructions on how to do so in the help file).

OK, first, take a pair of needle-nose pliers.
Sit yourself on a bed.
Begin ripping out pubic hairs with said pliers. Guarantee you'll be out like a light within a minute.

Me, I just start reading my school textbooks. Zzzzz.
