Is there anything that will convert .gmax files to anything useable?
-
No, but you can get an .md3 exporter for it, which can be converted to something useful.
-
It's a pain in the arse. You'll need to download the Quake tools for it (the Tempest gamepack), then use that to export your model as a .md3 file. Then use 3D Exploration to convert that into a .3DS or a .cob or whatever. There's a link to 3D Exploration in karajorma's faq - look in the modding section.

Actually there isn't yet. I do have the file though. :)

thx. I got sick of truecrap and started using gmax. But I guess it has to have some type of draw back.
-
Considering you're basically getting $2000+ of modelling software essencially for free that's hardly surprising :)
-
there are also some .obj exporters for gmax floating around
-
Lithunwrap can open .md3s aswell.
-
More info on the max exporter?
What format does it export to?
Can you texture in max now?
-
That's a 3D Studio Max exporter, not a GMax exporter, and it converts straight to POF. Anyone can texture in Max, and I'm pretty sure you can in GMax too.
-
Care to tell me how? :) Because I'm damned if I can figure it out....
-
It is in the help tutorials.
-
I don't have them. :nervous: My googling has been less than successful, giving me only horrendously complicated tutorials for animation and the like, which aren't much use...
