Hello,
I'm planning in redoing the asteroids, escpecially I want to get new ones in the asteroid-field. I want to completly remove all asteroids in it, but I'm not sure which ones must be changed.
There seem to to be about 18 different asteroids-models in the data-package. Must they all be replaced ? And in addition, could anyone tell me what the different model are used for ?

Thanks in Advance :)

Each 'set' represents a group of asteroids with the same texturing. Out of those, four of the asteroids are similar.
Just take a look at the files, it should become pretty obvious.
But there were some people who were working on hi-poly asteroids, and TopAce(?) was looking into converting Sandwich's 'roids.

Sorry for bumping this old thread up, but now I finally have time working on this issue, so I thought I make another attempt into information-gathering :)
Like WMCoolman already said, there seem to be differnent type of asteroid-sets (maybe for the grey, brown or blue asteroids-fields in FRED, or whatever the colours where :) )
With some intensive testing, I could figure that out, but what really worries me is the following :
When you destroy an asteroid in an asteroid-field, two smaller ones appear. And what I want to know, is which asteroids is "born" from which, or is it random ? Maybe that's even a code-issue to answer, but I really don't want to work on 18 (!) models just to figure out that I messed up their size.
So any information would be welcome ;)

Have you taken a look through the asteroids.tbl file?

Maybe ast01.pof breaks down into ast02.pof (or vice versa)?

 I forgot there is a table for it :D
Now I finally see the light, at least I have to rebuild only 9 asteroids instead of 18 (don't know what the other 9 are for)
Large Asteroids break into 2 identical medium asteroids and each medium breaks into 2 identical small ones.
Well, thanks guys, that was the insight I was looking/hope for :)

go man go! last asteroid pack they were doing made certain asteroid fields invisible...besides, i like variety --- w00t
