Still a WIP, but after a whole day's work on this (procrastinating from the bill paying work), I feel some pimpage is in order.

This mod could DEFINITELY use some form of distance fog support from the SCP gods.
-
You might want to contact the guys doing Twisted Infinities (IIRC, Flipside, Black Wolf, Vasudan Admiral, and some others) about how they do it. Co-operation might aid both projects. Especially in begging the SCP for new features, I think....

I did so already. ;)
Still looks like the way we handle it will differ from theirs.
BTW is the distance fog bug already fixed?
(The models kept disapearing at a certain distance to the player.)
-
Woah now that is very Cool!!!
-
You're making it extremely hard not to buy a game cube for real Fox McCloud gaming goodness.
*note, this is a good thing*
-
NB: didn't TBP work out a way of having light fogging ages ago (pre-SCP) using nebulas? It probably wouldn't be perfect (still get that fogging plane for one thing, I think), but it might be helpful.
-
That looks sufficiently awesome.
-
Wow. Very impressive.
-
It looks like this with fog enabled:

-
whoa
-
It disapears sometimes... this is still this freaking bug.
And although I like the distance fog effect, it's too close.
The landscape is all black except for really close parts...
Edit: Timewarp...
-
Fecking Hell!
I'm impressed. You need to post that piccy up on the SF forums straight away :)
-
Cool!
-
I love that explosion effect!

OMG! i never thought that something like this was possible in Freespace! impresive!!!
-
Should I dare to post another shot from the internal?
...

(no fog this time)
-
Thou shalt dare!
Seriously, they'll wet their pants even more when they find out this is still not the bulk of what's going on in this project
hehehehe....

kinda shows FS2's pissy clipping work
-
Awsome! :D
So how are the landscapes done anyways?
Just giant models Yeah?
Be cool if they implemented it in to the physics engine. So you could have near true air fight physics, where its possible to stall etc.
Great work guys. :)
-
Hehe, that's a secret.
I think I'd only tell the guys from TI because they also shared their knowledge with us.
Seriously, Omni mad it, so I think I shouldn't give away his ideas.
There is some great thinking in this stuff. :)
-
:) Danke
Now that you all have seen this, I now must kill you all.
-
Huh, where are you from?
It took me much effort to write some rather complex things in english.
Don't tell me I could have done this in german...
-
lol.
*Runs off and hides* :p
-
Oh mama ! you did good job .
-
The water is now animated and takes up 28 MB of you gfx ram....

I think we can fix this.
Edit: Meh, it's hard to notice with the pics like this...
-
try useing two layers of texture with two diferent (very short) number of frames, and diferent frame rates. give the bottom layer a strong environment map effect and the top alpha based transparency.
-
Oh, great idea.
I'll use one layer with animated (dds) tiles. That should be good for the memory and the detail. ;)
I think I'll run some tests tomorrow. :)
-

*withdraws back into the shadows*
-
wow, are those 3d explosions? could it be possible this long implemented feature is seeing some use at last?
*crosses fingers*
-
Nope, no 3d explosion.
I tried it first, but it didn't look soog enough for my taste.
I might try it again after some stuff is complete. With a glowpoint it might look ok. I prefer the EFF.
-
At first glance I thought it was a 3d explosion too. But you can see the clipping with the 'ground'. :)
BTW, how do you animate your explosions, and generally any eff?
Frame by Frame? or some animation tool?
-
Yup, EFF. Mostly frame by frame.
I only sue ANI if it really looks better and even then only for things that won't affect the performance too much.
-
Hmm, I should put more effort into my eff animations then. At the moment most are placeholders, but I think with a little patience I can work them through.
Oh, and approximately how many frames do you use in each explosion?
-
Looking nice! :)
I see I'm going to have to get back to my deserts..... ;)

$Frames: 101
$FPS: 24
