Nice subspace designs. Kind of like the "Weirdness" one more.

What about making a subspace effect that is so colourful, it hurts just to look at it? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Well I prefer the hell one  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
the weirdness one is the combination of both maps, the blue one for the inner subspace model, the fire one for the outer model?

I like the Heaven one, cos it has quite a calming effect on me at about 1Am in the morning yes and the weirdness is a combination of both.

heaven could be a stable node
hell could be a one thats been forced open by a knossos or is really unstable
and Wierdness could be a fluctuating node.

I'm not meaning that these textures are bad wEvil, just the model itself done by Volition has the seam appearance in places on 1024x768 resolution.

Some minor tweaking on the model would remedy this. (namely the inner "cones" of the model don't seem to perfectly align with their textures and shapes)

I do hope that someone can edit the model slightly to try to tweak out the problem, maybe even improve the effect.

However, the heaven texture I believe is perfect, I just wish the sub-space it was in was that good as well  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Hehe, yep - their cool, personally? Heaven gets my vote...

And it'd be great if someone could re-make the subspace model, it's an underused feature of the FS engine and I think it's got a lot of potential.

Lol, after the velocity mod, the "no debris mod" posted every time  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif). I love the velocity mod, but without the debris, in the void, it looks like the ship is not moving, no?

I hate to rain on your parade... but don't use that if you want to clean up the picture. Why? because FS takes the lack of an image in the .ani file and makes it into a black block the size of the image if it was there. So you get this:

well for my part I converted the actual maps to 512*512 and smoothed them, so they look way less pixelized. the second pic is an attempt at a 1024*1024 map, but it looks quite the same so I guess it was just scaled down by FS2.

I'm not totally sure but I think thats my THOR beam. It's fitted as standard on all GTAD Thunder class ships, along with the RAIN beam. (acronyms are A-1 SUPAR!)

And yeah, a tip for all subsace makers... because the textures are stretched like they are it can look really bad and pixilised(sp?) so using a blur tool on it helps to make it look better.

Wierd...I got that block thing in FS1, but not in FS2. Is that using my version, or your own? If it's mine, color me confused.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif) Do you get the same effect in normal space? You should be able to see it against nebula backgrounds or against ships, but it simply isn't there...in FS2.

No worries, though I'm curious to see what would happen if you made a frame for the .ani that was totally green (which I gather is something Freespace translates into transparent?)

I dunno- I think I may have tried that at one point, but I'm not sure. I do know that the debris seems to use a slightly different palette...

The reason the Subspace debris works wierd is probably because it uses some graphics routines from FS1, maybe including the Debris routines- it would make sense, since the only other place this happens is in FS1.

In theory, by looking at explosion and flak anis, totally blue and totally black should also be transparent - and we know that's not true.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

I think that the all black colour is transparent for anis, but maybe I was lucky for my shockwave. Maybe it's like in many games, the transparent colour is the first or the last colour of the palette.
