( in response to carl) I don't think so.
But I know I saw Palpatine whoop up AS Palpatine, Anakin in Sith robes leading a company of clones into the Jedi temple, and Yoda hopping up on flying senate pods. Oh, and a Palpatine vs. Yoda battle.

Goddamn wookies man!

And did anyone else see the "new" helmets for the clones, talk about foreshadowing lol. Also, they have the AT-MT (the huge tank-thing) which is sweet, since it's from the Expanded Universe. Also a Corellian Corvette makes an appearance. I think that this one might actually be good!

Looks pretty damn fantastic.. but then so did Episode 1 when the trailer for that came out so I'm not about to get too excited just yet.

As an aside, it looks like most if not all of the fighting takes place on/around Coruscant (I just realised that the location of Yoda/Palpatines fight is the senates council chamber... those "frisbies" are the platforms they used to talk to float about on and shout at eachother on...

There's a lot of references to the coming Empire though, prototype TIE fighters and an Imperial shuttle shown during the opening scene... Star Destroyers and so forth... and Anakin being suitably angsty as usual. If only those damn tribesmen hadn't killed his mother, the fate of the galaxy could've been so much more pleasent for everyone ;)

Oh puhleese... those "Star Destroyers" aren't. They're the big landing craft (very big, mind you) from the end of EP II. Readily identifiable by that tail they have sticking out the back.

And yeah, on the face of it, it looks pretty good. But like Thunder said, so did Ep I (and II). I'm not getting my hopes up.

Though of course I will go see it. :p

Post by: Ghost on March 13, 2005, 10:05:04 am
Yeah... Sandwich, those are Star Destroyer's predecessors. It's really quite obvious... also, if you look in the Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, it says Star Destroyers were first developed for the Republic.

And guys.. those tank things? Those are Juggernaughts. Finally, Lucas is taking something cool from the expanded universe...

I think they're mostly ceremonial.

But Palpatine isn't invulnerable. Sure, he can kick the ass of pretty much anyone in the galaxy, but if he got rushed by enough people he'd need some cannon fodder so he could run without being shot in the back.

No duh, really? The spearhead-shaped hulls didn't give it away AT ALL, honest!!!oneone

Doesn't negate the fact that those aren't "Star Destroyers" though - they're Acclamator-class trans-galactic military transport ships - aka. Republic Assault Ships (http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/republicassaultship/). :D

I couldn't agree more. Freakin' green bouncy ball. :ick:

As for the red-cloaked Elite Guards, I don't get it. Why does everyone think they're all that? I mean, Obi-wan said himself that those "blast points, too accurate for Sand People. Only Imperial stormtrooper are so precise."

And then, of course, we see all over the Death Star that Imperial Stormtroopers can't hit the broadside of a barn door at 10 paces.

Which leads to the question: If the Elite Guard are so good, is it a relative "good" or an absolute "good"? Cuz I gotta say, the relative "good" ain't worth crap.

Which is really a very crap job.  What must the description have been?

WANTED
Stormtroopers.  Ages 18-45.  Must be willing to travel.

Job responsibilities include being unable to hit a barndoor with a laser at 3 yards, cleaning bathrooms, being choked by a big goth geezer*, getting cut in half by laser-sword.

Salary negotiable based on experiences; we have an extensive dental care package.  Smugglers secretly impersonating loyal servants to rescue space princesses need not apply.

Yeah, but somewhere along the line they got a training academy, so they stopped being clones, hence they become "stormtroopers." If my memory serves, it was on Carida.
Title: Revenge of The Sith Trailer (spoliers)
Post by: Sandwich on March 13, 2005, 07:32:39 pm
Carida was written / invented before Ep II. But even so, clones may have the same physical abilities as their template, but they still need to learn the skills to make use of those abilities.
Title: Revenge of The Sith Trailer (spoliers)
Post by: Ghost on March 13, 2005, 08:12:16 pm
Yeah, I know, but the stormtroopers were never intended to be clones, until Episode II came around.  Han Solo trained at Carida, did you know that? It's an academy, much like West Point... somewhere along the line, Palpatine has to take over the cloning facilities and hold them for making clones of himself. Besides, didn't you hear the guy on Kamino saying that they learn everything they need for combat in the cloning center?
Title: Revenge of The Sith Trailer (spoliers)
Post by: Mongoose on March 13, 2005, 08:41:07 pm
Who says that all of the stormtroopers at the time of the original trilogy have to be clones?  That's a full 18 years or so later, a long time for all of those clones to still be around.  The Empire would need a large influx of new troops, so I'm guessing that they trained regular grunts besides possibly continuing the cloning activities.  After all, wasn't it written somewhere that Han overheard some stormtroopers on the first Death Star talking about their families or what they were going to do when they got leave?  Doesn't seem very clone-ish to me.
Title: Revenge of The Sith Trailer (spoliers)
Post by: Ghost on March 13, 2005, 09:31:47 pm
That's what I'm saying... I'm just having difficulty putting it into words. And it wasn't Han; the stormtroopers were talking about vacation spots when Obi Wan was screwing around with the tractor beam.
Title: Revenge of The Sith Trailer (spoliers)
Post by: Carl on March 13, 2005, 10:36:12 pm
Leia: "aren't you a little short to be a storm trooper?"

This was said without any suprise or suspicion that he actually wasn't one. if they were all clones, then there is no way he could have been one if he was shorter than the rest, so Leia should have known he wasn't, unless of course she didn't know that they were clones.
Title: Revenge of The Sith Trailer (spoliers)
Post by: Corsair on March 13, 2005, 10:47:34 pm
I think that Han went to the Imperial Academy as a pilot, not as a stormtrooper. But I agree, I think that probably by Episode IV, the stormtroopers aren't all clones. Probably some still are but I don't see it being that they all are. There's too much evidence saying that they're not.

Stumpy clones; they were put in a test tube that was just a wee bit too short fit them in properly.

NB: the Star Wars databank doesn't say they are, and doesn't really say they aren't; http://www.starwars.com/databank/organization/stormtroopers/index.html

It's nice and contradictory.  Which isn't really surprising, as they tend to rewrite that thing every 5 bloody minutes to retcon it..... perhaps the new film will show the cloning tubes in Kamino being destroyed, and solve that little issue.  Either that or a vast clone vs stormtrooper (Empire clones) battle?

There will be no Victory-class in Episode III, despite they were developed at the end of the Clone Wars. VSDs are the most powerful starships of that era, which is a reason I terribly miss them from this film. I know the reason why there won't be any: This episode focuses on Jedi. As a compensation, there will be more lightsaber battle in this episode than in the other five episodes added.

I wonder... will we see C3-PO's memory erased?

Don't ban me for this, but I don't agree. Anakin was found dangerous even before his training actually began. He ends up at the Dark Side anyway, with all the anger and emotion he has. Remember the Jedi Code: There is no Emotion, There is peace.

I wonder if Dreadnaughts are going to make an apearance in this, because IIRC weren't they developed and brand new during the Clone Wars?

Small chance of that happening. Lucas doesn't care about EU stuff so we won't be seeing Victory-class, Dreadnaughts or Z-95.

There are X-WINGs in the trailer.

I'm going to put out a hit on Lucas within the hour.

X-wings were developed one or two year(s) before the Battle of Yavin. At most, you will see some Z-95s or their predecessprs.

Dreadnaughts, on the other hand, are possible to appear, at least an older variant of it.

It's called an ARC-170; this is (some of) the concept art for it

It does look rather good, Mace Windu certainly appears to have a run-in with Palpatine, which could be more than a bit interesting, and the whole thing appears to have taken a leaf out of BattleStar Galacticas' book, Kudos to them :)

I want to kill myself now... but I can't ever resist reading what's in the spoiler boxes. Oh well.

Dough with Fish: did you watch the trailer? The Dreadnaught concept got turned into a clonetrooper transport. And those aren't quite X-Wings, like Aldo said. Nor are the other fighters in it quite TIEs.

Anyway, overall I just hope the movie is good enough to make up for the rest of the crappy series... :doubt:

So - anyone wanna give me odds that that volcanic planet is going to be Sullust?

http://www.starwars.com/databank/species/sullustan/?id=eu

It'd be cool if it was, but knowing Lucas, he'd rather just make up some random one rather than trying to link together the old movies with the new. I mean, Naboo was just crying out to be Alderaan.

Naboo should've. And I want this to be Sullust too. It'd just be a little nod to something small from the original trilogy... something that wouldn't be dicking with everything we know and like.

Sullustans apparently won't play part in Episode III, according to BW's link. Why should that planet be their homeworld?

Now that you mention Naboo: What do you think has become of Naboo? It hasn't been used anywhere in the era of the Civil War.

Has anyone else noticed the parallels between this and Return of the Jedi? It shows Anakin(instead of Luke) in front of a window with the space combat(specifically a Star Destroyer predecessor) in the background... The name is obviously similar... And plus the scene with a lightsaber duel between Anakin and Obiwan(I think), in front of Palpatine on his throne....

It's a Sih tradition that if a maverick Jedi is to take the place of the Sith Apprentice, they should fight in front of the Master. It's nothing special. Palpatine was so sure that Luke would join the Dark Side. After he defeated Vader, he tried to lure him finally to the dark side and urged him to take his father's place, knowing a Dark Luke will be more powerful than the Machine Anaking Skywalker.

Naboo is a pretty backwater planet, from what I understand. It was more or less a miracle that it got so much attention during the Clone Wars. Most likely, it was either more or less forgotten or it was razed by the newly-founded Empire for some purpose or another.

I think the battle in particular definately is/will be a deliberate allusion to the RoTJ scene.... the path Luke didn't take, in many ways - and possible acting as a retcon to explain the Emperors' overconfidence.

I can't help but think it's going to be a bloody negative way to end the trilogy, though; pretty much everyone dies and the galaxy falls into darkness.

Yay!

Given that a major part of the ending / plot is their birth and hiding from the emperor, I can't think of any other way they could do it....

From what I've heard the planet is going to be 'Stennis.' KOTOR2 mentions that the Hissis come from there, and it's a planet of the ancient Sith, and I believe those are the big lizard creatures shown in the trailer.

Most likely from the few KOTOR3 rumors around Stennis is going to be a planet featured in it when it's made.

I do agree that "Naboo" should have been Alderaan. That way EPIV had a certain punch to it which wasn't there before when destroying a seemingly random planet.

You wouldn't exactly mourn the loss of the Gungans, though.......

I suspect Aldaraan will feature, though; but probably only in a brief shot at the end when Leia is hidden there.

Obvuiusly whilst flying your Tie Advanced in the middle of a huge combat arena is the best time to start wondering about the genaelogy of the guy you are shooting at ;)

Of course, the Jedi like ability to figure out that sending Luke to his own uncle, and not even changing his name was an awesome way of keeping his hidden ;)

As far as the trailer is concerned,

Spoiler:

I think the lightning that hits Yoda is not Sideous, I think it's Dooku. I have a suspicion that Yoda will fake his wn death. The duel is most likely ol' Dooks as well, that would be more in running with the 'tradition'.

Edit : What I would have like to have seen was Yoda defeating Dooku on Dagobah, thus explaining the cave that Luke had to enter, but that, apparently, will not happen :(

I read that Anakin defeats Dooku (whilst 'rescuing' the Emperor); the Emperor coerces him into executing Dooku, and thus begins to turn him....

To be honest, I didn't download the trailer from that link, neither from any of the other links given here. It had Hungarian subtitling, which made it clear that Yoda's special parlance won't appear in the translated version:
'Twisted by the Dark Side, young Skywalker has become'
