It's that time boys and girls; Development on the BSG Mod storyline is in full swing, and its time to start bringing these characters to life!! I need auditions.
We currently have openings for the following roles:
Female: THREE
Male: at least SEVEN
There will be several generic audio parts as well, and cast number listed above may change.
Here's what I need from those that audition:
-Multiple lines, INDIVIDUALLY recorded (dialogue is indicated below, by part).
-Files MUST be in MP3 format. No other format will be accepted. I myself use GoldWave to record and RazorLame to encode to MP3...use whatever you care too, but make sure it's in MP3 and MONO.
-Quality does not matter much at this point, cd quality should be fine.
MALES
MaleLine1: (with confident authority) Alpha Flight, form up on me. Prepare to break on my mark.
MaleLine2: (excited, intense) Cryptor Cryptor Cryptor! I am taking fire, repeat I am taking fire! I have incoming...(frightened, in awe) Oh my Gods...This is it!
MaleLine3: (light-hearted) Looks like you've got a little problem there...would it help if I got out and pushed?
MaleLine4: (sternly) Lieutenant, what the FRAK were you thinking? Under different circumstances you'd be on the slowest ship back to Fleet HQ for a courtmartial! You're removed from flight status until further notice. Now get out of my sight. Dismissed!
FEMALES
FemaleLine1: (authoritative, cool) Bravo Flight, come to heading three-two-zero and assist Alpha in defensive action. Fire at will.
FemaleLine2: (concerned) Alpha Lead, I'm having some problems here. I need some cover!
FemaleLine3: (excited, incredulous, angry) Say again Lead? You want us to do WHAT?!
FemaleLine4: (frightened, intense) Two, this is Three...I'm losing her! Lords of Kobol...Gods help me!
That's what I need from the voice wannabes for now. A note, these lines DO NOT come from the campaign or represent the story. I need to see the emotional range of all those that apply, so that if you are offered a part, you are placed in a role that suits you best!
PLEASE, remember to encode auditions in MP3 format, MONO, CD quality. Name the files with last name (or part of your screen name, something to identify you by), gender of part, and line number. Example:
HagerMale2 (last name, male part, line 2)
Please attach ALL FOUR lines from your audition to an email to me at
[email protected]
Get your friends on this too, and lets see some genuine effort here!! This mod is going to be the best...it has incredible models and effects, the story is on it's way to being top notch, and the voice acting is just as important as everything else. A weakness in one area weakens the entire project. So, give it your all, don't be embarrassed to get into character, and have fun!! Good luck!

Not to put you guys down or anything but it seems awfully early to be recruiting voice actors now. You should only be recruiting them after the missions have been FREDded, tested and finalised. If not everyone wastes time recording lines that later get changed.

Actually, I think it's the right thing to do it now, because it takes an eternity to get people........
-
I just e-mailed my audition. That's one person they've got already.
It's up to the team doing the MOD how their development stages go, so whether or not you guys end up having to change things doesn't matter with me in particular, just so long as it's not something like an entire mission's worth(if you choose me as a part). Minor changes happen, that's just the way it seems to work.
It is pretty bad how few people are available for voice acting. I'd like everyone to know that I'm one extra guy, though I hope I wouldn't end up in the future having my voice in every campaign. I make a better command briefing narrator than I do an actual pilot, btw.

True but you run the risk of only being able to use them a year or so later once you're ready and then finding that they're AWOL or very busy.

A) I respect your concern about having to find people later, but these voice actors are only for the preview campaign, so far.
2) As I stated in the email, I'm looking for people to AUDITION for parts...we're lining up people who are wanting to be involved. We DO NOT have a finalized script yet (though we are working on that as I write this).
C) If you want to try out, we appreciate your interest!
IV) I am just doing as I am told. I was told to look for voice actors, that's what I'm doing
[/defense]
Jake, thanks for applying! I'll take a listen to it later.
A quick warning to applicants: Don't expect an instant response please; the reason we're starting this now is so that we don't have to rush when it comes to crunch time. I am going to keep all applications on file, and hopefully put everyone in the spot they are best for:-)

*drops in*
MaleLine4: (sternly) Lieutenant, that the FRAK were you thinking? Under different circumstances you'd be on the slowest ship back to Fleet HQ for a courtmartial. Now I have to put up with your incompetent ass!
Doesn't sound right. If this is a superior officer dressing down a lesser officer, unless the officer is supposed to be incompetent they're going to be telling them all the bad things that will happen to them - not that the Lt. can be incompetent and he's going to put up with it. There's no way he's going to maintain discipline with that attitude.
-
well then, good thing it's not a line in the script isn't it?!
Please, withold critique comments on the lines for the audition. These are ONLY for the auditioners to give me a taste of their vocal emotional ability and range. As I said in my initial post, these are not actual lines from the campaign. I made them up on the fly, and I apologize if they 'don't sound right' or 'dont fit'. For the record, I didn't like the line when I wrote it...but I need to know the applicant's ability to take a stern/disciplinary vocal approach.
ONCE AGAIN, THE AUDITION LINES ARE NOT PART OF THE CAMPAIGN SCRIPT
that is all.
-
Yeah, it's not part of the script. But I imagine the script won't be public, so I'm critiquing the writing now, rather than after the missions are released and the voice acting is done, so that the result may be better. That last line detracts from the stern/disciplinary feeling of the line IMHO; it needs more complex thinking to be acted out right.
-
I appreciate your comments WM. Thank you.

Cause if they are too busy to voice act when we are ready, we will fill their lives with misery and woe.
P.S. even if they quit.:D
-
Alrighty, I've got five so far...but I need more!! Especially the ladies!! Tell your friends!!
-
all jokes aside, the BSG project is doing quite well. were moving along at an exceptional rate, and all were doing is asking the exisitng comunity with mics and want to be apart of our mod, and give them the oportunity to join us.
were just giving advanced notice. once we get people we know wont go AWOL on us when the time comes, we still will have enough heads for our HEADZ =P
-
Maybe try a BSG fan community forum?
I'm sure there would be many more voices there.
I consider myself to have a nice voice, but I just suck at acting. :p
-
I have a neat british accent, but alas no microphone.
-
I can sound so menacing that I've - no joke - reduced my brother to tears with just one word :p
-
Are you still taking voice wannabe's?
The only thing holding me back is:
a) I don't know if you've filled the quota yet
b) GoldWave. It said on installation that I do not have codecs for MP3's or some stupid crap like that.
Not that experienced in encoding sound really.
So I'd need kind guidelines for that...
Meh...if anyone gives a ****, please reply.
I think I get what RazorLame does, but I still need to know how to set channels, sampling rate, and ultimately the file to which I save in goldwave in order to convert to mp3.....successfully.
-
Look up Audacity. It should either come with the LAME codec, or have instructions on how to get ahold of it.
Or you could use Sound Recorder to record, and dbPowerAmp to convert to MP3 (both are free).
-
There ya go...doesn't really matter what program you use, so long as it's MP3 mono. And yes, we are definately still taking voice actors!
-
Well I fixed the mp3 problem, consulted with Yogi on it.
But......you can hear static in the background (it's nowhere NEAR the quality of his BSC recording, I can tell you that), because apparently my soundcard and microphone are ****ty (very) so.....sorry to have wasted your time.
At least I've learned how to record and save files.
