Title: A penny for the poor?
Post by: Dark RevenantX on March 16, 2005, 11:54:39 pm
I am making a tabletop game for Freespace 2, and it is coming along fine.  The only problem is that I simply CAN NOT DRAW FOR BEANS.  So, I need some top-down ingame shots of every ship in the game with enough ambient lighting to see the entire ship.  It should be of the ship facing up, while the camera is directly above the ships.

Like, make three FRED2 missions with every ship for the humans in one, vasudans in another, and shivans in the third.  Bunch the ships together (don't overlap!) so many can be in one shot.  Once taken, compress them as JPG (quality just enough to make the ships look good on tokens.  PM me if you are willing to send them.

I use the Mac port for fs2, which can't run anything higher than lowest settings on my 333mhz G4 processor and pre-voodoo video card.  I use the port for the .vp access.  My windows is trashed and broken beyond repair, so I can't just hop on there and create a Fred Mission and do it myself. (was a 2ghz amd athlon with a Radeon 9600 Sapphire edition, too.  pity that all of that was lost due to a house flood)

I know this is a bother, but do you really want to use black rectangular pieces in your game with a plain white name in the center?  God, I wish this would be easier.  If you have no time to make the screens, at least can I have the fred2 missions (NO SCP PLEASE!!!) as the map port has no fred2 and can not support scp.

A cookie to anyone who can get the screens or even some missions.  Again, PM me if you want them sent.

PS. I am not that wealthy either.

I JUST FOUND OUT, THE PORT CAN NOT USE USER MADE MISSIONS.

Why not use the show model flag.
Or take screens in the techroom? :)

Paper cut outs though... :doubt: one gust of wind and the game is screwed.
Carve them out of wood or something. :p
Hmmmm. Ding. idea just popped in my head... *runs off to ponder*

How bout heavy cardstock?  Anyway, any game on a table or on the ground played in the wind is asking for replacement pieces.

How do I get all the ships to show up in the techroom?

The resolution which the game runs at would not be enough to ensure quality when the image is printed out. Take into account that a screenshot would be at 72 dpi, while you would need to print it at 200dpi at least.

So, probably renders are a better idea, if you can get someone to do them.

Indeed. Renders would probably be best. But there is a lot of work required... :doubt:

CTRL SHIFT S on one of the newer builds will make everything appear.

again, IM ON A MAC-NO SCP FOR MACS!

The screenshots will be cut into pieces and scaled down unless already at the right size, so renders are not good.

Try http://www.freespace2.com/gallery.cfm, then DL the Metastream plugin, view the 3d models, and print-screen the result -> edit to suit.

mac can not run metastream, nor is it downloadable.  Not all the ships are there either.  My keyboard has no print screen button.

GOD ALL I NEED IS A DOZEN UNEDITED IMAGES IN AN EMAIL!!!  if I cant get some pictures of the ships, I will be having to call this game off.

Ah. This should work then. You could download the ships table in my FAQ (Directory structure page).

Make sure that all the ships you want have a "in tech database" flag. Put the table file in Data\Tables. Run the game. You may have to make a new pilot to get the techroom to set up correctly but now all the ships should be visible.

Just take screenshots however you take them on a mac.
