Like this mod? Except it crashes VERY easily (Usually I'll see my laser turrets at 99% (500 of them spam) BOOM crash)
This is a VERY fun... But unstable to play mod

I have found out the limits, but it really cuts down the ship and is better suited for a gunship or light cruiser.
The Ship can be no longer than 200 meters and can have no more than 7 turrets. Like I said more like a Light cruiser than a corvette.

Hmm, that sucks, can you make a minimod for this? (I love to be able to control something besides a FIGHTER or SMALL BOMBER that DENTS the enemy...)

I can cook up a map with you as a Sobek if you would like.
Problem is-I have the ability, but not the means.
Change the player ship to a Fenris, for example, and construct a mission around that. FRED2 will nag you, but it will work as long as you check for the player ship to be checked as a player ship. Sometimes it automatically becomes unchecked. I made a map once where you were a Fenis, and your wingmate was an Aeolus, and you needed to take out the Moloch. You fired your beam often, but the damage was minimal. Your wingmate had to wait and rely on its flak and lasers once the two larger beams fired. The SGreen takes like a few minuites to recharge, but the LTerSlash takes seconds. My wingmate died quickly because he was an idiot and charged into the Moloch, while I got behind it and blasted away. Eventually, it hit me with a Sred, and it turned. After a minuite after that, I died. However, my explosion blew up the Moloch.You should only attempt flying a cruiser, or if you are desperate, a corvette. It is much better to attack a larger ship as you a small capship alongside other small capships. This makes loss much more emotional, as your scapegoating friend might die, leaving you defenceless as your beams power up.

I once suddenly discovered my entire wing had been turned into the Volition Bravos for no apparent reason, but I've been unable to duplicate it.

:wtf: You should be able to play as any ship. (Assuming you've got the interface art or are using a new build that doesn't need it)

Get the newest build and you should have no problems.
Heck, you can be a Rakshasa, or any other shivan ship!

When The Apocalypse Project comes out, you will be able to play as corvettes.
Slow, chunky armor, and packs a punch. :D

They fixed that error. If they did thats great, cause basiclly that would cut out the need for limits, since I found them out on Vanilla FS2.

The error only ever seemed to affect you weatherOp. I've heard of other people flying much bigger capships.

FS Open has problems too

I went over the relevant code in hud_show_damage_popup and it looks like it should be fixed., at least in the most recent builds.

Yeah, you could fly bigger ships with Vanilla FS2,even the Sathanas, it would crash with the turret thing, but you could play in the outside view fine, then some other problem once you got destroyed it would crash, but like I said if that is fixed, that is awesome.:D

That mod was actually pretty cool; a fighter doesn't last long when it has every anti-fighter turret on a Deimos aiming at it. :p

A mission where you can be a ship that's not Alpha 1!? And it's moddable!? Hehehe... does anyone know if it works in multiplayer at all? I feel like having a corvette duel!
EDIT: I installed the mission and now FRED complains about some weird error about missing weapons or something on the Ulysses... did that happen to you, too? Related to the tables it installs?

FRED will yell at you, but it works.

If you're using FS2_Open you can play as anyone you like :D You don't even have to play as alpha, beta or gamma wings :)

Can you shoot though? Or just fly around and let the turret AI do the shooting?

In theory you could make some fire-beam sexps for when Ctrl is pressed, but you'd have to preprogram who you wanted to shoot.

It works by freeing the beams when you press spacebar. They then shoot at whatever you're targeting. I looked at it in FRED and my limited knowledge of it figured that out.

Okay, I hacked the mission to use a regular Deimos for the player instead of the special player one with no turrets that comes with the mission, and FRED says it's resetting the player ship because players can't fly Deimoses. How do I get it to keep the Deimos as the player ship?
I just set it to Leviathan and tried it. Either I had no ship or there's a stealth version of the Leviathan with no engines.

So, if any ship is playable in the latest builds... how do you get FRED to not say "Oops, can't fly that" and unset the capship as your player ship?

Uh, just select a normal fighter, open the ship editor, and select "set player craft."

FRED says that a Fenris is an invalid player ship and I get no ship.

Then go back to a normal fighter. FRED won't stop giving you errors, because you aren't supposed to fly capital ships.

Try the command line to disable FRED warnings (I don't know what it is)
Or, you can try going into the mission file with notepad and looking for the list of ships available in the ship selection screen, and adding a capship.

Okay, this is really screwed up. I'm installing a second copy of FS2. I'm getting nonstop errors from nearly everything.

If you press H in freelancer you gain the ability to move around the ship and shoot targets behind you.

1. Get the latest FRED2SCP build.
2. Open it.
3. Make a cain for the enemy somewhere within beam range.
4. Turn the ulysses into an aeolus.
5. Give the cain orders to kill the aeolus.
6. Beamfree the ships.
7. Save, and ignore all those errors as fred2 is stupid and we are superior.
8. Play. Target the cain to fire at it.
