What are some of your favourite or most memorable quotes from FS1/FS2?
Mine would have to be when one of your wingmen start freaking out (it might have been in one of the SOC loops and he says "I can live with being a pawn if the game makes sense" or something like that.
-
Thats the mission after you discover the asteriod iceni, where you chase it down, but command sends you 5 clicks back.
-
I've always been fond of:
Freespace2: "If command wanted your opinion, they'd promote you to admiral, now shut up and focus!"
FS1: Anything from teh h4mm3r!

LOL! Arnt AI fun?
-
Pretty much anything Bosch says. In particular:
And when the destroyers came at last, what did the ancients think as they sifted the cremation of dust and bones, staring into the mute remains for a key, some... solution to their plight.
-
"Dive! Dive! Dive! Hit your burners, pilot!"
"What the hell is going on here, command?
Your out of line, pilot.
Out of line? I dont think so, were risking our lifes out here, we deserve a straight answer.
You will be informed on a need-to-know basis only, pilot.
Dammit, command let bosch excape!
Why why would they let him go?
You tell me pilot, im informed on a need-to-know basis.
Stand down, were on your side here.
Why did we attack the iceni, why did we destroy that cargo, i can live with being a pawn if the game makes sence!"
-
Besides the obvious one, I like another line by Snipes in "Into the Lion's Den":
"We've got fifteen minutes before we can change our shorts." :p

That's also my favourite one.
And:
'The detonators were a piece of junk'
-
Do I look Shivan to you?
Does this ship make me look fat?
-
How about a quote from Snipes that never made it into a mission, but you can find it in the stu_fs2.v, LP2-2_SN_02_OUTTAKE.wav?
-
"Yul yah!"
Thank you inferno :p
-
I'm preety sure we can all agree on one..
DIVE! DIVE! DIVE! HIT YOUR BURNERS PILOT!!!!!!!
-
uh, was that really called for?
-
Yes, as per the thread title.
-
I already stated it but oh well, a second time cant hert.

Such a deliberation.

In my opinion, the text itself is not extraordinary, but how it was voice-acted.
-
I agree with you there TopAce :) Cordova is probably the best of the "standard" squadron leaders you get in the game.
-
From the ancient cutscene:
We know when we entered subspace we were trespassers.
But our planet is our home.
And yet still they came.
And our world is gone.
The text ist not that special, but together with the video, the music and the way it's read I found it pretty dramatic.
-
LP2-2_SN_03_OUTTAKE
"That was a little too close...we've only got fifteen minutes to change our shorts....Well we just..*someone in the background laughs*....heheeeeeeh, stop laughing there co-pilot."
Bloopers rule.
-
Most of Petrarch's command briefings were pretty good as well, especially the last one or two where he was talking about the Shivan fleet around Capella. His ending monologue was also great. Robert Loggia is the man. :D
-
Without a doubt. I just cant think of any single quote by him I especially like. It's just all good :)
-
"From our oddesy into hell we return wiht a gift"
-
I really liked just about everything Petrarch said in both of the end cutscenes, especially where he references "the old poet".
I agree with you there TopAce Cordova is probably the best of the "standard" squadron leaders you get in the game.
 Cordova's voice acter was rather excellent, not just as Cordova, but as the Aquitaine's communication officer every time you have to pull it out of a mess.
-
He was also Admiral Khafre, I think.

:blah: there was a thread in my forum on this very same topic.
but, what the hell:
Bosch: I demand unfettered access to the Deneb (or is it Sirius?) jump node.
Alpha 3: Command, the rebel leader is on that base!
Command: That's impossible, pilot. Admiral Bosch is in the Polaris system.
^^^^^^^^^^^^The first and only time Command has been in denial.

Gosh, that scared the heck out of me when I first played that. I went up instead of diving and I think the Sathanas collided with me and killed me, and after that I turned the sound down and then played it. :p
Yeah, cordova's voice actor had quite a unique voice. It's been a while since I have looked at the credits but who played him?
I was just looking through IMDb and found that Ronny Cox(Robert Kinsey in SG-1) played admiral bosch. I never guessed that and StarGate SG-1 is one of my favorite TV shows. :p
Cobra, it's Sirius. Because I remember him saying he would withdraw his forces from Deneb.
Who played Command? That guy had an awesome voice too.
The "Dive, Dive, Dive, hit your burners pilot" is the only one I can think of right now. I will probably remember a different one that I like better later.
-
i looked at the credits, and it doesn't say who played who...
heh, it's been a while since i played "In the lion's den". wonder if i get the **** scared out of me again. :drevil:
*goes off to edit table so terran mara has infinite afterburner :drevil: )
-
Well I knew Robert Loggia from independance day so that is how I used the credits to find out. Has anyone ever heard these actors voices in different films, and matched their names from the films and FS2 credits?
-
not really, i don't recognize anyone's voice...
-
"See you in hell, pilot!"
-
" AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!......" of you blowing up your wingmen. It also is the most used words in the game.
-
"Your instructor is not a valid target pilot!"
I've lost count of the number of times I've heard that one :)
-
"Those detenators were a piece of crap... I even followed the instructions!"

Excluding Stephen Baldwin (who did the intro; imdb is wrong, a Volition employee was Snipes), there are only 2 other voice actors listed in the imdb entry (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0289708/fullcredits) - Kurtwood Smith (Robocop) and Mike Trippiedi (who appears to have done nothing except 'Bucky McSnead' and 'Dogs in Quicksand' - whatever the **** those are)
-
Ah so Smith was the Colossus voice over. Cool.
I don't remember him much from Robocop as much as from that 70's show.
"Now, I know it's hard to listen when you have your head up your ass..."
Good actor.

No.

I'm delighted.

"that's what you get when you don't play nice"
-
For feeling (Gotta have it with the music):
"We made our first retreat...we could forego one system. We left it to the destroyers and went elsewhere.
But they followed."
For humor...there are a lot. Pretty much anything the Aquitane officer says. He just sounds so funny.
"Roger that Command! Engaging fusion drives. ETA to the node is less than twelve minutes."
"That's the last of the escape pods. It's do or die for the rest of us!!!11one"
Edit: And also, of course -
"Command, the Shivan Juggernaught is ripping our hull to pieces!!!"
"Colosssus, we're pulling you out of there!"
"Negative, Command. We'll buy the Bastion time!"
Apparently the Colossus just wanted to ***** about getting shot at...
-
I liked the voice of the collossus voice actor, especialy becaaues he had to say "This is the GTVA Collossus" before everything
"Domino's pizza, how can i help you"
"This is the GTVA Collossus, I would like to order one large ham and pineaple pizza, and one large peperoni pizza"
"Would you like anything else with that?"
"This is the GTVA Collossus, yes, i would also like to order bread sticks"
....

min favourite quote would be in the ending scene when Admiral Petrarch says: "There are more things between heaven and earth than a man could ever dream of"

'We die in vein if we do not win the day!"
Or something like that. Vasudans have the most honourable quotes.

You mean
"There are more things in heaven and earth, [horatio], than are dreamt of in your philosiphies"
It's taken from hamlet, infact, there are alot of hamlet quotes in freespace 2.
-
(nevermind, misread last post)
-
One of my favourite bit of dialog is from Clash of the Titans II.
"We're hurting, sir. They've sent in every damn fighter and bomber in the Shivan armada!"
"What class of bombers, Beta?"
"Nephilum. Seraphim. Nahemas. You name it."
Very simple but the acting really shows how up against it the GTVA is at that point.
-
From that dialogue, I really like the 'You name it' term.
-
I always wanted to change a bomber's alternate tag to "SB You name it" in that mission...
-
Funny that thers only one other kind of bomber the shivans use
-
Two, if you count Shaitans.
-
I thourougly enjoyed one time when I got 6 death messages at the same time :p
Yeah... I noticed the Collosus announcing itself all the time. As if we didn't recognize it?
Hmm... Oh yes, one time when I got a simple one:
"Cappela has gone supernova! Repeat, Cappela has gone supernova! You have 40 seconds to get to the jump node! This is allied command, signing off." [Or whatever he says, that's the gist of it]
"NNOOOOOOOO!!!"
Moderately amusing ^_^
Oh, and the all-tim favourite:
"Your cynisism appalls me, Collosus, I have 10 000 officers and crew willing to die for PANTS!"
Oh, and I do a passible Cordova ^_^

not only do the shivans not use those in FS2, but they blow chunks.

When's this played?
LP2-2_SN_02.wav: "EVADE EVADE EVADE GET OUTTA THERE GET OUTTA THERE!"
Fly into Sathanas or something? 03 is "15 minutes to change our shorts," so I imagine it's from the DIVE DIVE mission.
-

The whole quote is "Capella has gone supernova! Repeat, Capella has gone supernova! You must get to the Vega node and engage your jump drive NOW!" And in another file, "This is Allied Command, signing off. Godspeed, pilots!"
-
LP2-2 indicates that the mission that uses this file is the second mission of the second SOC loop, specifically the "Dive!" mission. SN indicates that it's snipes doing the talking, and the last number is an identifier for distingushing it from the other 20 or so messages from Snipes in that mission. My guess is that "Evade" was either an alternate to "Dive! Dive! Dive!" or is used when the Ravana jumps in from the nebula.
-
LP2-2_SN_12 is the "oh noes, Ravana" one.
Also, when are *_stray triggered? When you're too far from the closest target?
-
It's probably DIVE DIVE DIVE version 1.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,11238.msg208132.html#msg208132), and they changed it to sound better. IMO they made a good decision. :)

"Two of our Top Pilots, Xinny and Zero, will cover Alphas 3 and 4, respectively"
The quote ain't that funny (other than the fact those are some pretty weird names), but i REALLY want to hear more about Xinny & Zero...!

Xinny & Zero were the (callsigns of the) top 2 ranked pilots in (FS1) multiplayer, IIRC. Volition put their names in as a sort of reward.
-
aaaah, good to know...
-
I've always meant to check if Xinny and Zero have special flags on their ships or some kind of uber AI: I've lost one of them, once, but they always seem to survive that mission. Which is rather amazing if you think about it.
-
They're ship-guardian'd IIRC. You shouldn't actually be able to lose either of them :)

I remember losing them both. They only receive the ship-guardian if their hull drops below some percent, which means if they got a hit that destroys them at once, they die before they would get the ship-guardian.
-
Xinny and Zero never died in the Lion's for me. We all got back to the node, all 100ish times that I've played the main campaign.
I also knew Xinny from a couple of times we've chatted in PXO on private channels. He told me a little secret.... :drevil:
-
What was it?
-
Now, if he told you it wouldn't be a secret, would it?
-
So does anyone know if or when the stray WAVs are triggered? They all say something to the effect of "desertion kills kittens" or something.
-
Um...no they don't. I just checked the warble.vp file, and they just order you to return to the battle, and such.
Thinking a corvette is smaller than a cruiser? Killing kittens? Luigi, you need to get some more sleep, dude.
*Nervously steps away from luigi*
-
They're in stu, not warble.
And yes, I went to sleep right after that and slept for 12 hours. Guess I did need more sleep :)
-
I do also, need sleep.
I recall a few tiems i was so far away from a mission (user designed) that command killed me when failing to return to the battle. Was a traitor and once, just was SD'ed by command.
Hehe, maby they not as lenient as we thought..
-
"Negative, Command. We'll hold them off here. Just get the Bastion through!"
The name of that message is Up Yours.
-
Seriously?
< dosent have the time now to check
-
Yep. Quite a few of [V]'s missions have amusing event or message names.
That mission alone has events called "Turn you silly bugger", "eh" and a series of chained events called "Colossus Die", "And die" and "And die again" :D
-
And that, gentlemen is why FS2 is such a good game, because, even if the hope was to sell a million units, the motivation was to create a game that they themselves enjoyed playing, a motivation which, amazingly, I find less and less apparent in the Computer Game market.
-

So that's why the colossus was disabled in that mission

I wish they'd included more outtakes. Snipes is funny enough as it is, the outtakes are hilarious.
-
They weren't expecting anyone would be able to open their VP files.

Although I'm surprised that none of the Colossus movement events are named after a baseball term :D
