Some games have a final mission/level where the game takes a new style or changes appearance...so-to-speak. What games have you played that end with some 'special' level. this has nothing to do with plot or story conclusion.
The Maw on Halo, driving the warthog along the length of the ship was a brilliant idea!
The finale of FS1 was cool too...in subspace...with no shields

Well, Painkiller's final level was really cool (it was supposed to be Hell), it was basically all of humanity's worst disasters crammed into one area (the nuke, Titanic, the crusades, various other things), freeze-framed.
-
Hostile Waters ending is quite different from the other missions. You can't just sit still and build up your forces or even set up a defence in depth around your carrier cause it's continually moving.

Don't know if anyone played the singleplayer campaign of Age of Mythology (which, at least in my opinion, was an excellent game), but in that, you get a god power that transforms the main character Arkantos into a one-man wrecking machine demigod. There's nothing like taking on 50 or 60 enemy units with one man and obliterating all of them. :D I'll give another vote for FS1, for obvious reasons.
-
yes, Uber Arkantos was fun, but so was the end of the expansion pack campaign were you could control Gaia.
-
Half-Life 2 had the uber gravity gun during the last level, but the actual ending was kinda :blah:

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, when you get into the riot gear mech thingy was absolutely kickass!! When the internal voice started talking, must have been some of the coolest and most hilarious stuff I've heard. Not to mention the feeling of unstopable power when youre ramming through office corridors, shooting the **** out of the enemy.

Derelict.
I sat in stunned silence for a few seconds during the credits, then went "OMFG!!!!! VOICE ACTORS!?!?!?!?!?!"
Edit: Although IIRC it was 2-3 AM the first time I finished it. :p

System Shock. Fighting Shodan on his own grounds.
-
Halo 2, the last level was... different...
A. Because you finished the game as the Arbiter. (who kicks much arse BTW)
B. Because there was a boss battle, not something that is distinctly "Halo."

His? :p
Also I'd like to add Postal 2. The last level is... interesting.
For one, it rains cats and dogs. Literally.

The last level of the Marine campaign AvP 2 was cool with the exosuit, it had a double-barrel minigun, a laser, flame-thrower and like 80 rockets!
AoM's was cool too, didn't much like the expansion's campaign though.
-
how could I forget? HORDES OF THE UNDERDARK! The fight with Mephistopheles was like
-
The Fortress of Regrets in Planescape: Torment.
The Transcendant One is such an asshole :p
-
Metal Gear Solid 3 was superb, beginning to end.
-
^^ true, but the end isn't radically different from the rest of the game. The last boss fight is great but I don't think it's different enough to qualify for this thread. Just my 2 cents, it was an excellent game though.

Populous the Beginning. In the last level you get to play as a god which means no more of that walking your mortal shamen into range to cast a spell s**t :D
Smite the unbelievers from on high! :)
