I'm running FS2 Open in OpenGL mode (because D3D likes to crash when I open this particular mission), and in all the nebula missions, the nebula is one big single-color soup. Is there a reason why it looks so lousy?

I was just bringing this up in the internal, there are a number of issues wrong with the nebula, and I was wanting to just through out keeping everything exactly like retail and trying to make it better, as the retail fog mode is both complicated and imposable to replicate exactly anyway.

What build are you using? Don't use -2d_poof with anything but the newest builds when running OpenGL. I didn't fix -2d_poof in OpenGL until just recently and some older builds didn't automatically disable it like the post 3.6.5 builds did.

The lack of poofs gives it a Freelancer-ish look that I kind of like, actually...

It actually looks more like, well, fog.

How did you get this "bug?" That nebula looks awesome!

he told you to stay out of the ferrium subforum
that's how he got it

As I said in your forum, I didn't mean to insult you or your efforts. Sorry if it came off that way. As a matter of fact, I'm actually quite looking forward to Ferrium's eventual completion.
Again, I apoligize for the misunderstanding.

I got it too once, except there was this "window" in space through wich i could see my poofs being rendered.
-
It is just the fog. The poofs are rendered in a 2d window off to the side and never move out of that spot. I bet if he turned and looked everywhere he'd see them. It's an old bug and there have been plenty of screenshots of this effect. Could be a newer version of the bug I guess but I don't get it with any recent builds.
