I think it's the first ship I post here, but it's not my first ship concept.
SPECS
The Thunder is a multi-purpose heavy ship. There are 2 Vulcan cannons attached to the ship, but the two main gun racks can hold different guns. It's equipped with 2 big rocket banks. This one is equipped with a hornet-like launcher and 2 harpoon launchers. The racks can be made in different configurations. The ship's control pod (front part) can be ejected from the main hull in case of emergency. The pod will automatically transmit a distress call to the nearest capital or rescue ship. The hull has a eavy armor plating so it's very tough to beat in combat. On the downsides, since the ship is heavy, manoeuvrability and acceleration is limited.
Notes
I saw after drawing the whole thing that I made some mistakes in the perspective. The grey strips are just some decals. they are not ship parts.

Looks like a very heavy Loki. Loki Herc Love child perhaps...either way, i like her, model it, and then give it to me :P
-
I don't know modelling, don't have the computer for it and I'm not equipped with modelling tools :( :( . But if you want to take the concept and model it go ahead! Just give me credit for the concept itself!

You forgot about a little bit of Apollo thrown in, seeing the way the "legs" remind me of the front of the ventral engine nacelles on the Apollo.
-
Cocpit and nosee reminds Valkirie, "legs" are from Erayens..this ship is hybrid of terran fighter dessing:)
-
Sooner or later, it had to be done. I do apologize.
-
I think the part I wanted to re-create from the Apollo is the cockpit section. As for the missile banks, they're slightly based on the Descent 2's Pyro GX.
For the picture above written "Kalfireth", except that it's the name of a photograph here I'm not sure to understand :wtf: ! could someone explain?

thunder, Kalfireth... one of the stalwart admins looking after the rowdy mob that HLP mostly consists of :p
-
It would have to be more evil to be named after Kalfireth... :p
With a few chafered edges this would come up alright.
Where the neck connects to the body needs to be modified somehow. The tutle neck doesn't quite fit that design...
But coming along nicely. :)
-
Hehe, I'm honored (I think) :)
She looks pretty good as well... I must say it reminds me closely of the ship design that some of the boss-mechs in Descent 2 followed. Kudos!
-
I'm glad you like it :) ! I'm working on an improved version of the actual design. I need to fix some stuuf on it! I'll post you the new version when I'm finished drawing it. It will be (hopefully) better than the actual one. The shape itself will be kept. Here's what I'm doing:
1)More compact design: this one is a little bulky
2)Bottom gun racks: I didn't like how it came on the actual design and I dunno why...
3)Cockpit section: I was thinking about how the pilot could see with a big strap in the middle of the main window  and just removed it (kinda replaced).
4)Missile banks: It will be nearly the same banks, just changed the position of them a little.
5)Cockpit section/main hull attachement: After looking at it a couple of times, I wil change the turtle neck for something more interesting. Like Grug said, it doesn't fit with the ship anyaway.

:p
I look forward to the next installment.
This has actually inspired me to do something similar... :)
Will post more laterz. ;)
-
it looks like it has legs. put them on the sides, how 'bout.
-
Finished the 2nd version:

-
Are you from the future? Seems like your a month ahead of everyone... :p
Alot crisper drawing this time round. :)
The guns on the side seem a little weird, I can't really tell if they are on an arm or in a recessed part of the hull or what. Needs more shading or something around that area of the hull to clear things up a bit.
But yeah, certainly a more original design that I've seen in a while. :)

Nah, the Canadians did that ages ago to try and pretent that they're advanced...
Twas funny, though.

huh? :wtf:

I never prentended I was more advanced than others here. And I think Grug's comment was referring to the leap between the 2 versions more than my experience.
-
Double huh :wtf:?
I was referring to the date marked on the page being 22/04/2005 when we are still in March. :p
-
oookay we all misunderstood the comment  !
From the future... mmm
:thepimp:
So do u like the 2nd version?
-
Coming along nicely. :)
The only major critism I could make would be the slightly off angles that are present in all your drawings.
It could also be passed off as a style though, so meh.
-
I'm preparing the top-front view so you will see how it's built.
-
Finished the top/front view. To be honest I don't think it's my best drawing here... the front opening for the control pod is way too big for the perspective I chose. Also, after finishing the drawing, I found that the main hull had a little rotation that made it look like it's all deformed, I corrected the mistake and re-draw over the lines with a darker pencil. Ahh there are days like that...:hopping:

As was I. :p
-
I forgot to say... if you want to use those schematics to build a ship for one of your FreeSpace project, go ahead! I would be more than happy to see this ship fly someday! Just give me credit for the concept. I'll try to do the back part of the ship soon!

Now I am confused, were you serious? Are the canadians a month ahead? surely not.
Another smart ass comment gone awry... :p
You know Pyro, that if you sketch the rough version first, scan it and then go over in a darker pen in photoshop or like program on another layer, you can make much more crips drawings.
More effort involved yes. But better results, and solves the problem you were talking about. :)
-
I'm nearly done with the back part! I added an auxiliary thruster...
-
After re-drawin' it a couple o' times I'm finally finished with th'back part.
As usual, there's a mistake in th'perspective an ye loko at th'2 gun racks. Ah well!
Any one interested modellin' it for a project?
Well an there's anyone willin' t'model it as I said hie for it! Here's th'pictures o' th'front an' aft part (I didn't like th'top view):
FRONT

BACK
(http://img216.exs.cx/img216/3646/backpart5nk.jpg)
-
It needs more cleavage.
-
Mmm...I dunno... since it's a heavy armor plating I tryed to cover most of the ship's components (If I understood what "cleavage" means). The missile bank can be ejected from the missile rack so it's faster to reload, the gun racks can ge changed in flight to change the guns and the pilot pod can be ejected too so there are the cleavages of the ship. I dunno where I could add more!
