I'm having issues adding to the Species.tbl.... I can't seem to add in an entry to the table and show in the TR. I have re-made pilots and even tried alot of ways to get it to show in my TR. Any suggestions?
Hmm...Do I have to edit a .cpp entry for this thing?
-
You shouldn't have to but IIRC the limit's quite low...
Try replacing an entry and see if that works. If it does, I'll bump the limit in the code.
-
There's a flag on the entries: $AlwaysInTechRoom:
It's set to 1 on the entries from the FS2 stock species table, which show up. Presumably if you set it to zero, you'll have to add it via FRED.
-
The entry matches the previous entry "Subspace" in all of it's code settings.
@WM - I tried replacing the entry, made a new pilot, and it did not work. Tell me what I should do, so I can do it on my own next time..or do it, and tell me what you did...that'd help.
(Oh, And I'm Using HOTU FS2...I downloaded the music files.)

Try making it shorter. You might have exceeded the string limit.
-
To expand the string limit, do I have to open up the tango data, or the .cpp entries in the string.tbl?
-
Use a SCP build.

Here is what I did after Goob's post.
1)I deleted the subspace entry, replacing it with the new entry. New pilot: The Subspace was gone, and nothing was there.
2) Deleted the Subspace entry, replacing it with the new entry, leving the entry to have a '1' in the XSTR description area. New pilot: Same as the first time.
3) Deleted both, placed the species table in a NEWLY Extracted FS2 Main Folder, created a pilot under the default Class 99 pilot, and still got the same thing.
I'm guessing it has to do with a code or something in the .cpp references in the tstrings.tbl or strings.tbl...
I'm just guessing...

Try replacing the text in the subspace entry.
Then try replacing the name.
I was able to replace the text of the subspace entry with no trouble (well, except the first time I tested it out I was using the wrong mod dir)

~smacks himself~
Okay... I had two versions of this running within the file at one time. I retested it by replacing Subspace and shortening the description. It worked... now to see if I can add that AFTER and keep adding. Thanks for the assisstance.

Yeah.... back to square one... I guess I will have to just replace all the table entries, unless someone can help me understand what to do with SCP and what Goob meant by using an SCP build.
-
Make sure you are creating the new pilot when you first start FS2, not in the Barracks.
-
@ Goob, I was. I have even gone the place and made a new pilot NAME each time.
-
With retail builds I think the limit number was the number actually in there.
