Title: 3d Graphic Design Software
Post by: QXMX on June 14, 2001, 12:58:00 pm
Ok, I've come to the conclusion That I'm going to have to actually pay for some 3d Rendering software.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Any recommendations on what to get?  I can go as high as $400

For that price you can probably get Rhino3D, Milkshape or TrueSpace.

You can't get LW or 3DS MAX for that, unfortunately.

Well, I'm proficient with TrueSpace 1, I looked up Lightwave, damn, I'd have to save every penny I got for 2 months straight just to get that.

I looked at Caligari's site, and TS5.1 is around $300.  That's probably the the best choice  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

well apparently theres a good package from hash software going quite cheap.

formZ is good for non-organic models.

if you only want to try programs, all major vendors offer 30-day demo disks which can be ordered from their websites.

i have a few links to reviews but i cant find them at the moment

drop me an email  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

I'd think you could get an older vesion of 3ds max...it should be good enough for most of us beginner types.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I've got intermittent access to 3ds MAX 3.1, and a student copy of 3DS R3(a DOS version), but I'm eventually going to have to get something for real.

formZ is a very good program, for its value.

I wouldn't advise that you get rhino, it's my favourite modeller but it's short one vital necessity, there are no texturing tools.

Look for inspire 3D under their products list. Inspire is Lightwave Junior.

Also, student discounts rule.
