Title: Model Map Issue - Need help...
Post by: xenthorious on March 26, 2005, 02:58:10 am
(http://agdse.game-host.org/mapIssue01.JPG)

What you see above is a few polygons of which have an opacity of 70%.

The problem is, that's all you see in the model.  Everything has a hint of brown which isn't like that until a map is applied, and the full material is not applied on the polygons of which have the opacity.  Instead, just some properties of that material (e.g. Glossiness, opacity).

When I drag and drop a material, I want everything on that material applied to those polygons I have selected.  I have used UVW Mapping after applying the material.  What am I doing wrong?  How can I fix this?  Thanks in advanced.

Still not entirely sure on what your describing.
What maps are you using?
Your sure your not applying opacity properties to a map, because it will effect where it's used everywhere unless you make a second material.

Maybe a screenshot with the material editor open?

Opacity has to be applied by the main map's alpha channel. Don't bother to apply it to the model.

If you still want to do it, select the faces you want to be transparent and apply the opacity material to them.

No no no.  I used the opacity as a demo to my problem.  The properties of the map seem to apply, but not the map itself.  Notice the faces selected?  The material is applied, but the faces selected are not black, like the orb in the meterial editor.  If you look at the first pic, you notice there is a 70% opacity.  Again, there is no black map applied, just the properties of the opacity (and any bump I would apply).

I want everything you see in the orb in material editor to apply to the faces selected in the model.  My problem is; this is not happening.

Ah, so that'S what you want.

I think there might be a useful option in the 'properties' of the object.

'texture blah' or something... You see I'm not really sure about it.. :nervous:

The maps may just need to be activated.  Try view->activate all maps and see what that does.

See on the material editor?  Click that checked cube (4 icon from the right), that should take care of it.

If I understand you, you;re not seeing the map but just the opacity of it, yeah?  Well, that aforementioned icon simply means to show the map on the view; to get the entire material shown, you need to select it on the top level.

If you select it on the opacity map screen, then only the opacity map is shown, for example.

Hey guys, I got the problem fixed.  I never bothered to render the pic, so I never knew if it was applying.  Fact was, the maps were applying, but there is a feature under view, which shows/hides maps.  The view mode was to hide them.  Thanks a bunch for the help.

Like Aldo said, that checkered cube in the map editor makes maps display in the viewport.

or you could alter the properties of the viewport itself (i.e. show all textures instead of polygons)

Holy $^#$%$# dog-balls.  I am humbly honored!  Tolwyn has taken interest in a topic I created, of which is unrelated to WCS.  =P
