That's right. Not a "stable" build, a "cool" build. Yes, I can tell what you're thinking. What kind of a n00b asks for the "coolest" build? Well, this kind of a n00b. The Blitzerubern00b, so to speak.
I created this thread because, after only recently returning to HLP, I can't make heads or tails of the Recent Builds Forum. Buggy testing builds...by the hundreds! Chaos!
So, let loose. What build do use most often, why, and what feature makes it awesome? Any other builds worth knowing about? Include links.

Bobb's shadow build is pretty cool. I think there was a build with a truform thingy, that made models with rounded edges look really good (I don't have an ATI so I can't tell whether it's in recent builds).
I usually use my own builds (the better to test them).

Greeting ! I have ATI 9600 XT and needless to say, I am interested in "Truform build". Just searched and found it and though its rather old I decided to give it a try.
Result ? Bugggy as hell. Anyway I can guess that this thing (truform) won't and should not be put in CVS anytime soon. It's sad for us ATI-users, but as Al Bester said: "It's an imperfect world."

I've got it done for OpenGL but have been hesitant to put it in CVS since I can't test it. If OpenGL suits you then let me know and I'll send a test build your way. If it works out then I'll add the code to CVS.

Trueform worked perfectly for me back when the builds had it. The bugs may be due to other problems (especially if you were running the current media.vp files with it!).
-
I'm currently using bob's "rayball" build because i think that looks awesome.
-
Think I run some more tests on this truform build, I had little time on my last try but now I can do better.
Just out of curiosity, Firecrack. What is this "Rayball build" ?, sounds interesting. I'm going to run search & Find operation right away.
Update:
I tried to play this truform build using opengl and I almost flew from my chair !

Yep. Back then you needed a command line switch to run in HTL :D

I use this build aswell. Words don't really do it justice.
Here is the thread: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,31376.0.html
build links are therein.
Fire up a mission and watch something warp in. :D
-
Yeah, warp effects are awexome. The explosion rayball build is apperently unstable so i'm just using the warp rayball build.

my fred build is the coolest

Yeah, I'm surprised that thing hasn't gotten more attention. After all these months, FRED is finally...uh, decently usable. So many bugs fixed! Heck, if anything was worth newisfying, that was.
Edit: Fine, Goober, so it was months, not years. Blasted Inquisition...
-
Years? :wtf: It's only been six months.

well at least people will now need to find another excuse to not work on their projects

I believe it has gotten a tremendous amount of attention. Well, at least, from the people that need to give it attention...
Look at it this way - the best developers will notice the best tools.
