Hey, I have played Freespace and 2 for a long time, since its release, really. However, when I got my new computer, I was astonished that I could not play it!
Every time I popped the cd in, it would say
"The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications."
What can I do to get my beloved Freespace 2 back? Any information would be helpful.
Thanks!

Your autoexec.nt is corrupt.

Yep.
Here's the MS (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767) page on it
I knew I'd seen this problem before (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,27739.0.html)

[Shameless plug]
You should also try out the SCP (http://dynamic6.gamespy.com/~freespace/fsdoc/index.php?pagename=GettingStartedWithFsscp), if you've got a good enough computer.
A comparison of the SCP-ified Perseus (left) and the original FS2 Perseus (right) (http://i160.exs.cx/img160/1536/perseusold12pt.png) (Special thanks to DaBrain)

The 'Downloading and Installing' page is a little out of date; the latest installer can be found here (http://scp.indiegames.us/download.php?view.50)
The SCP also doesn't require CDs...
