Uhh, I'm having problems finding Lieutenant Snipes in the foggy mission for SOC. They say follow the buoys, but I'm lost. Can someone help me please?!
-
Jump out 5 times.
-
The buoys don't show up particularly clearly; IIRc the buoys will appear as a small black jiggly blip on your sensors until you are close enough; you need to turn at every buoy in order to see the next one.
Most important thing is that all the buoys are the same height; i.e. don't go too far up or down.
-
You really don't even need to follow the bouys at all. There's a real quick and easy way (the 'sissy way', the 'dark side' way) to finishing the mission.
If you open it up in FRED, you'll see what I mean.
-
Whats the mission name, ya happen to know offhand (Like X_grayfight.fs2)?
If not Nm.
-
Fly towards the first buoy, when you get close to it a new gray blip will appear on the radar, so head for the new contact. When you apprach the 2nd buoy the 3rd will show up on the radsr....and so on.
The next buoy always shows up always just before you reach the current one. That's how you can identify them among the other ones.
Of course there are all the Shivans that require your attention....but since it's the first mission which lets you equip the Kayser that shouldn't be a problem ;)
-
Basically, stare at the radar and maneouver towards the gray dots, then the gray blips.
-
No, no. I know how to find the buoys. It's finding Snipes thats causing me trouble.
-
Snipes is at the last bouey.
You're not looking hard enough.
-
Heh.. yeah, buddy.. Snipes is the last buoy. It really isn't that hard.
-
i hate this mission, just so you all know.
-
I happen to love this mission myself; one of my favorite missions in FS2.
-
I got my nick in 98 from that mission.

YARR!
-
I hate that mission too. If you think its hard now, just wait til you find snipes.
-
OK, another question. How do you get those animations from the game? *points to transmission by Snipes in Blackdove's post*
That is, as a file?
-
You open up the VP folder with VPVIEW. Extract the animation, open it up with ANIVIEW. Save the frames you want as bitmaps with ANIVIEW (or you can save all of them as bitmaps, which it does for you). Piece together with another program :)
And anyway, I could never find Snipes. I just died five times or so when this big wave of shivan fighters (I literally remember it as a wave: all of a sudden they warped in, went up in unison, then down in unison, just like a wave would). Then skipped it.
-
Wimp. ;)
-
extract the mission and get rid of the nebulas :p
-
You people dissapoint me.
I'd FRAPS it for you, but I just don't have the system for it.
The best advice I could give you is probably to open it in FRED and find him that way, although I don't know if that works considering I've never done it.
-
Perhaps try turning off 3d-radar, just for this mission?
-
The mission is called loop2-1.fs2
From what I saw when I opened it up all you have to do is go straight forward the moment you get into the game. It will take a while but sooner or later you will come upon the NTT Grall which has snipes in it.
The navbuoys take you on a winding path away from the direction the Grall is in at first but then the trail winds back around to the Grall.
-
Can't Find Snipes!
Here I am. :)

YARR!
funny how the game came out in 99.
-
ffs...
Just fly to the first navbuoy. Note the number of the navbuoy you're flying to (1). Once you reach the navbuoy you're flying to, look for the next one (2).
Repeat until you reach buoy 8.
-
I agree with above post.
Anyone find out the code, to that ani, of Snipes transmissoin?
Would be cool (If they used a code at all, instead of just scrambling triangles:P), if someone used the code in a future campaign or whatever..
-
From the looks of it, it's Dingbats or similar.
Guess cryptography is a mite lazy in the GTVA.......
-
Anyone know a program that can put Bitmaps/JPEGs together into Gifs??
-
The PSP trial includes an animation editor that can.
Nothing else springs immediately to mind, though.

Hmm....that's right.
'99 then. I took the nick two days after the release. Bought it on release, finished it the second day. Took it on the second day.
