Title: Repair and Hangarbay
Post by: Singh on March 30, 2005, 06:55:01 am
Begun work on the Triest's main hangar and repair bays - I went overboard and started making everything hi-poly. I was even tempted to open up a seperate object/model file for each component of the repair bay, but decided the graphics card will be strained too much as it is.
Edit: ignore the rendering error on the hangarbay. It's been bugging me a while and I think I may have to re-install DoGA to get it fixed. But otherwise, yes, it is the general idea of the hangar....

The hangar bay itself is still incomplete, but the main runway(s) have been finished along with the repair bays in the corners.

I think all the arrows and lines and labels and whatnot should be worn down a bit... still legible, but they've seen alot of use.

Where are you planning to put this?

Wow - I didn't realize DOGA could do this sort of thing - sooner or later I may have to look into it. Is anyone else thinking new custom mainhalls?

On the rear end of this, on the black platform near the engines.

Karajoma - thanks. I'm still amatuer in comparision to some of the stuff posted in these forums though ;)

As for custom mainhalls...errr....guess not - although I can go pretty high poly with this, it's still nothing compared to what is possible in TS/3DS Max - or hell, even the half life level editors :P

Still, wonder what the repair bay would like with a Herc (albiet untextured) or a Medusa in there :drevil:

*gonna try when he gets home :D

Funny thing is that there was a time when I was the only modeller on the MG team. Now it seems like everyone is learning to model :D

Maybe.

But not a 'hall' per se.

Main lift lobby has been completed. Hangarbay has also been changed to fix the render errors. The entire thing now stands at 30k polies, and sadly, i dont think i'll be able to continue it till I can get a new graphics card that can keep up.

Ignore the background; its a lot better than the other one :P

The lobby's entrance:

A shot of the lift in the hangerbay with a cieling, but, sadly, no walls:

Gratious shot of an Eris Mk 2 getting ready for launch:

Shot of the hanger overall, without the cieling.

Agreed. From the looks of it, whatever pilots comming out of that hanger have to be severely mentally handicapped.

Awesome work! But I don't like the yellow arrows and exits. They remind me of modern day parking lots or something like that. :)

thanks. The yellow signs are there as an inherent safety feature of sorts; if you think they are too much, then i'll tone them down or remove a few of the signs then.

It was originally meant to caters for pilots that are careening into and out of the hangar bay at  maximum velocity - there isn't much time in either case to really squint for an entry or an exit marker.....

Better. Something to consider is that when you actually plop this down in your little ship is to make a custom texture with your writings on it (just put it over whatever tiling you decide to use). Also to increase performance, it might be good to make those truss-thingies a single transparent texture.
