Title: Question for any AIM users (God rest our souls)
Post by: Solatar on March 30, 2005, 11:12:26 pm
Has AIM been acting funny lately? I can only accept file transfers once in a blue moon, and I keep getting kicked off halfway through conversations and can't get back on (even AIM Express won't let me on). Is it just me/Comcast/AIM's server borked?

I'd go download ICQ or something better than AIM, but sadly my RL friends aren't smart enough to do the same...

I think their servers may have just gone offline.  I just lost mine a few minutes ago.

Yeah, mine just went down. As long as it isn't just me (meaning the person I was talking to is screwed too, so she won't get mad at me for signing off randomly.:D)

I'm having problems too. I know my friend is online right now, but when I try to IM him it says that he's offline. Oh, the humanity! :sigh:

If you're signed off, right click the little AIM icon in the system tray, go to Preferences. Go to the Sign On/Off category, and hit the button in the bottom right that says "connection". Hit Auto Configure.

It got me signed on at least.

I really despise ICQ and Im not just saying that to be different either :D
The contact list takes forever to load and its hardly intuitive and also it takes a long time to connect and I get dropped all the time so yeah... not a big fan.

So use Trillian or one of the other clients to connect. I've found ICQ to be pretty much rock solid with that.

Yeah, I've been having a lot of issues with AIM as of late, so I said screw AIM and went and downloaded GAIM. A very stable program, and a hell of a lot more flexible than Trillian. I suggest that you peoples go and give it a whirl, here is the URL: http://gaim.sourceforge.net/

Might try on GAIM for size, nothing to lose...

GAIM still has the problem of the AIM client randomly disconnecting every once and a while.

I haven't had any problems after it fixed itself today.
