I'm assuming something to do with yesterday's events.

Styxx shut down the forums before he had to leave for the weekend, thinking that I'd be able to restore stuff from the backups. Unfortunately, a long-lasting side effect of last year's server hack/crash is that we still haven't gotten FTP access to the dynamic server yet. Way to go, Lamespy! w007!

Anyway, while I'm haggling a user-pass combo out of GS tech support, I figured I might as well reopen the forums.

Yesterday was not as well-planned as it should have been.  It was all well and good until forums and content got deleted, but at that point the admins lost the ability to easily have it restored.  They can go to backup, sure (and one certainly exists prior to yesterday) but the active threads will revert to that point too.

EDIT: And now it's the weekend, so there's no chance of getting Gamespy tech support to get it resolved.  Even better.  :doubt:

No, we're gonna do our best to make sure that only forums that were deleted will be restored from backup. I certainly don't want to lose the hilarity of the past two days! :p

I'm still of the opinion that it was all an elaborately staged prank by the admins, using anon as the agent to the execution of the cunning plan.

But then again, I have a "The Truth is Out There" poster on my wall, so what do I know?

I don't really have that poster, just saying is all...

I'm of the opinion that an0n is an elaborately staged prank by the admins but that's a whole different matter :)

EDIT : If that's the explaination why is the HLP main page screwy too?

Eh? Huh - I guess I didn't realize that it's still not clear whether we were truly hacked or it was all put on by the adminship.

Kewl. :p

Than why would confidential discussions be hosted on PB?

Unless this is a large conspiracy :nervous:

Well, when the joke takes down the central hub of information that this community relys on, it's going to be a little hard for everyone to stay on the same page.

I figured it out earlier yesterday than many, but it never really was clear.  It's still down, more or less, and the longer it stays down, the more people are going to think that yesterday was a legitimate hack and that information was lost.  Even the official announcement by Styxx still indicates that it was a hack, and that it's going to take a long time to fix.

EDIT: Good call, Goob :p
