that nearly all the forums (particularly #50) no longer seem to exsist...
-
No.
Be annoyed instead, it's much easier.
-
Don't tell me you missed yesterday Bob. I'm with Aldo, be irritated. Annoyed. Downright pissed off. But not worried.
-
I've come to reconsider who the April fools actually are.
Sure there were a few who bought it, but the admins also screwed a few things up so they are fools also. :p
-
Basically:
The staff decided for april fool's day, they would screw up the forums, deleting them one by one while making posts that made it sound like an0n had taken over.
This was right before Styxx was leaving. So Styxx leaves, and it falls to Sandwich to fix the forums following the April fool's day joke.
Sandwich tries to login to fix things, and finds that his password didn't work.
It's also a weekend, so support from GS is uncertain.
atm, I'm suggesting people go to the forums at http://scp.indiegames.us for SCP-related stuff, as it's very possible this won't be fixed for awhile.
-
Worst April Fool's day ever.
-
Well, now I thought the Pirate thing was cute. Very much in line with what we've done here in the past, and completely harmless. Fun, even. But the "hack" was way over the top, and apparently the only people who got a kick out of it were the admins and those users who never contribute anything at all. And Raa, for whatever reason.
-
Lmao. I got a kick, and I contribute. :)
There are some questionable things about it but meh. I can find plenty of other things to do.
Raa just loves the people who are so gullible they went out and moved into a bunker, fearing the apocalypse is nigh. :p
As for Styxx, I saw him online partially during and after the events... :blah:

I think he was on ICQ until I messaged him about it.
-
well it's april 2nd now, so...
-
The intention was to fix it early this morning, and by then Styxx was out of the loop. So the given explanation makes perfect sense.
Funny would have been hiding the forums instead of deleting them. Restricting access from everyone, maybe, so that we couldn't even get in to them. But deleting them outright was just asking for trouble, and now trouble we've got. At least for this weekend. Not such a big loss though, means more RL time for me.
-
It's actually the third of April. :p
-
The Apirl Fools joke went a little over the top...but not to worry, everything was backed up in advance so everything should be restored soon enough.
I'm kind of anxious to get back to my BWO forum myself.
-
As am I to get back to TAP forum. :)
But seeing as I posted info after the backup... I hope the restore, keeps current posts as well.
-
well after work I went right to sleep yesterday, so I missed all the fun
-
[color=66ff00]I missed everything except the last few hours where I sat on nodewar and confused people by posing as some newbie called Randomer (sorry for all the painful n00b questions GW ;) ).
And yes, GS is responsible for our current lack of action. Sandwich's hands are tied for the moment until they pull the finger out.

-
in the future can we have less destructive jokes?
-
This was teh sh1t.... in a bad way. In a "blowjob from a mature whore would've been less annoying" way.
-
I think most of the admins have learnt a valuable lesson. Most anyway. :p
-
Like deflowered teens after a frat party, they've realised their mistake was drinking all that spiked punch.
-
Woah there Mr.Analogies...
-
And we've all realised as their parents we've just lost our daughters to a life of sex, drugs and possibly more sex.
Ah I'm tired and unsober, I don't know what that means.
-
Vyper....are you drinking punch at a party justnow?
-
@Grug till next year when this has worn off, then it will start all over again shheee...
-
It was beer, Doritos, a burger and then some more beer. Goodnight everyone, and may God have mercy on you all...
-
I thought an0n was really responsible for all the forums going down, so i was coming here today prepared to chew his head off.
I gotta say i wasn´t entertained at all with this. The pirate crap i digged, the forums going down and STAYING down i did not.
So i join my voice to the choire in saying you went too far.
-
The Apirl Fools joke went a little over the top
Seconded. That one was just not very damn funny......
-
I thought it was pretty hilarious. At first I really did think an0n was taking over, and I was kinda laughing about that...
At least it's only once a year, and that I can handle.
I'm actually with Raa on this one (even if I didn't figure it out at first), of course I hardly ever post...so go figure.
-
I still say alot of the people here are still gullible :p
We were all laughing at Game Warden at the way people kept panicking over the end of the world here.
Admins:  Awesome work this year.
...
Well, except for the part about the SCP/hosted projects still missing forums. Yeah, I don't like that.

i actually found it funny how fast people's panties got twisted into knots. Next time keep the mayhem to the main HL forums and none of the hosted project/SCP/modding forums. Also keep the word filters in HL main too, its kinda hard to interpret pirate dilect in the SCP internal.
-
I thought it was completely tasteless and utterly hillarious. Who says the admins don't have a sense of humour?
-
I laughed my ass off, until people began the 'exodus'
-
I got a kick out of it myself. Until I got to GW, I was fooled! Good work admins!:yes: This was THE BEST April fools day ever! :D
-
Yup. The exodus was a little much. Though it did increase GW's traffic threefold.
Retards.
-
I am more than a little annoyed I can't get to the SCP forums.
-
as am I.
haha... :doubt:
-
I wish every day was April Fools!
Seriously though I thought it was pretty damn funny.
-
how are we gonna top this one next year? how about making a virus that deletes FS2.

It's alright. You're not the only one I had to tell the story to repetitively :p
-
I just hope, that the admins will take it a little more easy next year, or at least leave the project-forums out of this. Though I have to admit, that I first thought it was anOn (until this distgusting picture (HLP blows) was deleted again, anOn wouldn't have done that I guess).
The pirate-thing on the other hand was really funny, that was a good joke. But sabotating the project-forums wasn't at all. We lost a weekend of work (maybe more, depends on how long it takes to fix this debris-field that is left now), and that while beta-testing. Sorry, but that was NOT funny. :(
Nevertheless, I hope they can fix things quickly, and nothing gets lost. I would really hate to create the to-do- and informations-stickies again. :doubt:
(edit) Jesus, check my post count. It was close before 3K ! I spend too much time in WCS-Forum I guess ;)
-
I'm pissed 'cos all this happened on the one day I decided not to sit in front of computer browsing HLP. :sigh: Just my luck... Well.. Maybe something like this will happen next year and I will be there witnessing it... :wtf:
But I hope the forums can be restored back to the way they were. :doubt:
-
A definite not funny was touching the project forums, but even then it's pretty bad if this isn't something that can be restored right away.
A lot of posts will be lost either way, because if a db restore is done, we're still reasonably borked because we'll lose any posts made during the pirate thing. (I'm geussing you backed up before that, and not betweeen the word fileter and hacking stuff?)
-
Funny how the forums go away for two days and the world is over.
-
are you being sarcastic? didn't you see the meteor shower outside? darned things are the size of cars.
-
Not really, I'm just annoyed at the SCP internal suddenly being gone when I was working on the mantis cleaning and needed feedback.

It's the world of nerds. Forums go down and the four horsemen starts riding...

You know what's scary? I agree with you.
Granted, I can see how it could be irritating to people.. but I never imagined this level of reaction.
Perhaps we should just take the forums offline all together and blame a GS server issue untill we can put the old forums back. Everyone accepts that without complaining quite so much.
-
IMO, it wasn't very funny. Not funny at all. "The Pirate talks" were all nice and entertaining. But to see forums disapperar one by one, to see Pr0n link appearing and to see HLP website in state of disarray among other things. I find that just a little disturbing. Even TBP forum went down...
It's a good thing you made Backups beforehand. still as said, lot of posts are lost. I only wish all the forums to be back online ASAP.
-
Frankly, I skipped out on April Fools because I was playing Navy Field.
I'm glad, since HLP had this and one of the other forums I go to had seizure-inducing flashing green and yellow.
Reading over the posts, your an0n impression was good, but not quite good enough to be convincing. Perhaps if it had, I would have found it funny.
As it stands, I was going to finish the rough draft of my SA mission today, but somehow assumed the forums would be up so I could check specifics...

Oddly enough, I remarked on that in the Grognards forum... :nervous:
-
How does one become a grognard? Is it just a postcount thing, or do you have to have completed something major? Because I know I've played Fs2 more than a good deal of you (since '99), so it can't be anything gameplay-skill-related. :p
-
Can we keep the kvetching to one thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,31824.0.html)?
And you know what? Aside from the SCP peeps, who really do make headway day-by-day, I think all the rest of you people complaining about the lost productivity time on your respective projects are being whiny little babies. As if you accomplish so much in 2 days. I wish. Pfft, some (honest) people are even commenting how their productivity went up because of this mess. So go get a life, a sense of humor, or both.

Grognards is sort of for project heads, although all moderators on HLP have access. It's sort of a place where some of the core ppl of HLP can discuss things related to HLP rationally, without floods of newbies asking irrelevant questions. Not having access to Grognards doesn't say anything about anyone, don't worry.
