Title: Installation help
Post by: Phoenix_Emperor on April 03, 2005, 06:10:17 pm
When I try to install FS2 i get this error message -
"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT
The system file is not suitable for running MS DOS and Microsoft Windows applications"

Is there anything I can do about this?

Your windows config file is corrupt. There was a post about this a week ago. You can search, or wait for someone else to tell you what's wrong. There's a way to fix it through microsoft, I'm fairly certain/

This one is already bookmarked awaiting insertion into the FAQ from last time. I wonder why it's becoming more common now though.

Yeah but that's been true since Windows 1.0 and we've never seen this particular problem before :)

Hey, I was the one who was the person who created that Topic in the first link above. What I found was the easiest and fastest way to get it to work was to go to the file:

/mycomputer/c drive/WINDOWS/REPAIR

Then copy the file named 'AUTOEXEC.NT'. Go back to the /WINDOWS folder and right click on the folder name SYSTEM 32, and select 'Paste'. And there we are. The game will run. You may have to select that auto-play, or pop the cd back in, but it will run now.
