My DVD writer is acting up, i can´t burn anything with it. I´ve tried every piece of burning software in the market, but to no avail. I always get this error message: "Power calibration error".
Anyone know what the hell that is and what causes it?
The drive is an ASUS DVD+and- R/RW Dual, model DRW-0402P/D.
I really need it, and the warranty has expired...

Get latest firmware from http://www.asus.it/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=DRW-0402P/D&Type=All
It should reset the laser too. If that fails, are you certain the power supply has enough power for the drive? If both fails, looks like the drive is done for.

Have you tried powering off your system for a few hours? Many things can cause calibration failure, including reaching the MTBF, disc writing marathon runs (one disc after another), and heat absorbtion. If your drive doesn't run like it should after a few hours of no power, reset your firmware. If that fails, your drive is likely done.
