A customer at work showed me this and I think it's funny as hell.

Okay, go down to the "Cables" box and look at the price they want for one SATA cable.
-
Edit: Timewarp! Is it just me, or does this happen to me every other post?! StratCom was right!
-
Blitzerland, switch to dynamic4 from whatever server you're on so you can stop this. Actually, perhaps the problem is in fact Liberator, given the fact this post somehow managed to get before Liberator's as well.
As for the original topic, I was hoping that HP would become smarter after ditching their CEO. Seems my hopes were dashed yet again.

Lordy...
-
GW, I always post to dynamic4.

effin 'ell!
I suppose the cables are made of solid gold?
-
That doesn't seem too out of line to me. After all, a SATA cable is a direct bus between your disks and main memory and so will handle a ton of workload on a fileserver. High bandwidth, high speed, and very tightly packed I'd imagine. When you realize that your average monitor cable goes for upwards of $20, well, those parts aren't cheap.
-
it is a little out of the line. you can get a meter of it for ~$6 here in sweden, and that's including VAT.
this isn't the hifi world, where there's cables that cost upwards $10k a meter. basically, a s-ata cable is a s-ata cable.
-
Yep, and it's basically a SERIAL cable which is not exactly a lots of cores or very high quality. The simple rule is: the newer the technology, the greater the rip-off - check the price of parallel cables for example...
-
I wonder if it's cheaper to make my own.

Strange, I've been posting to dynamic3.
Edit: HOLY **** $200????
-
Aaaaaaaah....... HP.
-
Really? Seems the time warping isn't caused by different servers then, as I was also on dynamic4. Very interesting...
-
Clave, that cable retails where I work for $10-$15 US.
-
And Liberator's number should be the maximum you pay for a SATA cable.
-
It probably includes a SATA HD, but they didn't write that. :p
-
No the drive is separate.
-
Then, HP = wackt
-
maybe it's a typo, maybe it's suposed to be $20
-
I was actually under the assumption that the kit comes with more than just the cable. On further investigation though, it still is way too expensive. Unless it comes with a controller, of course.
-
Even then it should only be about $70-$100 at the most.
-
I have an 80GB Sata HD that came with a cable, of course, for at most $100.
-
I meant the controller. Of course the drive would be more.
-
I do like SATA - you just plug it in and it works, and that's a rare thing...
