made with gmax and Yafray. Yes, gmax can render. It's a pain to make it do so, but it can render.

I suppose it's worth noting that I have almost no modeling/rendering skills.

You'd make it a lot better if you moddeled the seperation between the bullet and the casing. It now just looks like two colours meeting, you want an edge.

Perhaps add a few smudges somewhere.

And a golden gun, if you're going to be using golden bullets.

Fix the colors, it indeed looks like to be golden. The mirror technique is a good one, great job doing that. As for modelling, no problem. Looks realistic to my eyes.

you need to use a conductor shader in order to get a golden reflection for the bullets.

TopAce... you and your high poly phobia is getting a bit.... tiresome.

Also; I'm going to stab someone. With bullets.

Ok, first, you may try chamfering the edges where different angles join, especially the hard edges around the bottom.  Nothing in the real world comes to a perfect 90 degree corner.  It's subtile, but the improvement on lighting is well worth it.  The groove around the bottom is probably too deep, but that's purely artistic.   Also, in complete opposition to TopAce, you need far more polys around the cylinder.  At least 30 segments, probably more, but enough to get rid of the visible segmentation.  Finally, I see you haven't finished the bottom yet.  You might want to get on that ;)

Looks good though, I like the general composition and the lighting setup.  Basic perhaps, but not bad.

For the longest time I thought that little red dot was some sort of hunter-killer bot that lands on the smiley's nose and explodes.  It wasn't until recently I figured out it was a laser designator and the smiley's brains are getting blown out.

What...  :nervous:

You can add me to your ignore list.

I know I can but from time to time you add valuable insight. People on my ignore list do not. So there'd be a conflict.
